What is a virtual UX UI designer?

Virtual UX/UI Designers are professionals who specialize in designing user experiences (UX) and user interfaces (UI) for digital products, such as websites and apps, while working remotely. They use digital tools to create wireframes, prototypes, and visual designs that make products easy and enjoyable to use. Virtual UX/UI Designers often collaborate with clients and development teams online, using video calls, project management software, and design platforms. Their main goal is to ensure that digital products are both visually appealing and user-friendly, regardless of where they or their clients are located.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a virtual UX UI designer?

To thrive as a Virtual UX/UI Designer, you need a strong background in user-centered design, wireframing, prototyping, and a portfolio demonstrating proficiency, often supported by a degree in design or a related field. Familiarity with design tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch, and usability testing platforms is typically required. Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills help you work effectively with remote teams and stakeholders. These skills are crucial to creating intuitive, visually appealing digital experiences that meet user needs and business goals in a virtual environment.

How does a virtual UX UI designer typically collaborate with remote teams to ensure cohesive design outcomes?

As a Virtual UX/UI Designer, you'll frequently work with cross-functional teams—such as product managers, developers, and marketers—through online collaboration tools like Figma, Miro, or Slack. Communication is key, so regular virtual meetings, design critiques, and feedback sessions help maintain alignment and address challenges early. Clear documentation and timely sharing of prototypes ensure everyone is on the same page despite different locations or time zones. This role often requires strong self-management and proactive communication to foster effective teamwork and deliver consistent, high-quality designs.

Job description

Agility's commercially deployed humanoids operate alongside teams in warehouses, manufacturing facilities, and distribution centers-tackling physically demanding and repetitive tasks while enabling workers to focus on higher-value work. With industry-leading safety standards and years of proven deployment data, we're pioneering a new era of automation that enhances human potential.
About The Role
We are seeking a UX/UI Designer to join our growing team. In this role, you will be responsible for creating intuitive, visually compelling, and user-friendly digital experiences that support the operation, monitoring, and management of our robotic systems. You will work closely with engineers, product managers, and researchers to translate complex technical workflows into elegant, efficient interfaces.
Robotics experience is helpful but not required-what matters most is your ability to simplify complexity, advocate for the user, and bring a strong design perspective to multidisciplinary collaboration. This is a remote-friendly role with a preference for candidates located near one of our offices for in-person collaboration, meetings, and events.
About The Work
  • Lead the end-to-end design process for robot and web based UI: e.g. create wireframes, prototypes, and final UI assets ready for implementation by our development team
  • Improve the UX/UI of features implemented by our development teams
  • Design industry leading user interfaces and experiences for robot operator tools, dashboards, and mobile/web/VR applications.
  • Develop and maintain design systems and style guides to ensure consistency across platforms.
  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams to align design solutions with technical feasibility and business needs.
  • Assist our HRI/UX Researcher in conducting user research and usability testing, and then iterate based on feedback.
  • Create intuitive visualizations for real-time data, robot status, and system controls.
  • Stay current with UX/UI best practices and emerging design trends.

About You
  • Bachelor's degree in Design, HCI, or related field-or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3+ years of professional UX/UI design experience.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating user-centered design across web or software applications.
  • Experience designing complex systems, dashboards, or technical tools for enterprise software.
  • Proficiency with design tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD).
  • Experience with prototyping and usability testing.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Authorization to work in the USA

Bonus Points
  • Familiarity with robotics, IoT, or industrial automation interfaces.
  • Knowledge of front-end development basics (HTML/CSS/JavaScript) for better design-engineering collaboration

This a hybrid position based out of one of our Fremont, CA office.
The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to: market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This range may change based on geographical location and may be modified in the future.
Anticipated Salary Range
$128,000-$200,000 USD
In addition to base pay, our competitive total rewards package consists of the following for full-time employees:
  • 401(k) Plan: Includes a 6% company match.
  • Equity: Company stock options.
  • Insurance Coverage: 100% company-paid medical, dental, vision, and short/long-term disability insurance for employees.
  • Benefit Start Date: Eligible for benefits on your first day of employment.
  • Well-Being Support: Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
  • Time Off:
    • Exempt Employees: Flexible, unlimited PTO and 12 company holidays, including a winter shutdown.
    • Non-Exempt Employees: 10 vacation days, paid sick leave, and 12 company holidays, including a winter shutdown, annually.
  • On-Site Perks: Catered lunches four times a week and a variety of healthy snacks and refreshments at our Salem and Pittsburgh locations.

  • Work Environment: A culture that supports flexible work arrangements.
  • Growth Opportunities: Professional development and tuition reimbursement programs.
