Supervisor BESS Battery Modeling, Ford Energy

Ford Motor Company

Dearborn, MI • Hybrid

Full-time

Posted 5 days ago

Job description

Ford Energy is a newly formed, wholly-owned subsidiary of Ford Motor Company dedicated to accelerating U.S. energy independence. Leveraging Ford's century of manufacturing excellence and world-class battery energy storage systems (BESS) technology, Ford Energy designs, manufactures, and services grid-scale and commercial DC battery energy storage systems (BESS). Ford Energy is uniquely positioned to capture the growing demand for reliable, US-built energy storage systems. We are not just building batteries; we are building the infrastructure for the next generation of the American grid.

Why Ford Energy?
At Ford Energy, you have the backing of an industrial manufacturing powerhouse with the agility of a dedicated energy startup offering industry leading technology. We offer a competitive compensation package including performance-based bonuses, Ford vehicle discounts, and the opportunity to shape the energy strategy of one of the world's most iconic brands.

In this position...
The BESS Battery Modeling CAE Supervisor will lead Ford Energy's system-level battery modeling and simulation activities. This role manages all CAE initiatives in close coordination with Ford Auto battery resources and the Ford Energy Technical Solutions team. You will own the battery life, thermal, and multiphysics modeling efforts that translate cell-level behavior into actionable system-level tools, directly impacting the performance, durability, and "bankability" of our BESS platforms.

You'll have...

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in battery modeling, CAE, or simulation engineering.
  • Expertise in electrochemical, thermal, or multiphysics battery modeling.
  • Demonstrated experience leading technical projects or engineering teams.
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally with internal stakeholders and external partners.

Even better, you may have...

  • Master's degree or PhD in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Advanced experience with high-fidelity battery models (P2D, P4D).
  • Direct experience with utility-scale BESS or high-voltage automotive battery platforms.
  • Experience in degradation modeling, thermal runaway analysis, or container-level simulation.
  • Familiarity with digital twin development and model correlation frameworks.
  • Leadership Attributes
    • Technical Translator capable of converting complex multiphysics simulations into practical engineering and business decisions.
    • Collaborative Leader who can bridge the gap between Ford Auto's research capabilities and Ford Energy's deployment needs.
    • Quality-Obsessed Supervisor who maintains high standards for model accuracy, validation, and execution.
    • Strategic Thinker focused on improving the long-term "bankability" and durability of energy assets through virtual validation.
  • Location & Travel
    • Location: Dearborn, MI. This position is hybrid-friendly for candidates with a proven ability to deliver results in a flexible environment.
    • Travel Expectations: Occasional travel to support suppliers, test houses, and customer sites.

You may not check every box, or your experience may look a little different from what we've outlined, but if you think you can bring value to Ford Motor Company, we encourage you to apply!

This position is leadership level 6 and ranges from $115,500-218,100.

Company: As Ford establishes a wholly owned subsidiary focused on Battery Energy Storage Systems, this role will initially be employed by Ford and is expected to transition to the subsidiary within one year.

Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.
