Job description

Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Operates all radiographic equipment including general diagnostic, portable, fluoroscopic and PACS related equipment as part of the diagnostic plan for patients in the Imaging Service.
  • Receives/Interprets/Perform Exam Requests - Receive written requests or instructions for procedures. Employee understands and carries out the requests made by physicians or seeks assistance from the supervisor or lead tech when in uncommon, unique or new procedure is required, or if clarification of the request is needed.
  • Registers, edits or cancels exams as needed.
  • Performs relevant clerical duties as they relate to patient care within the section.
  • Secures the confidence and cooperation of patients during procedures.
  • Explains procedures, positions the patient for optimal results and cushions and shields patients as appropriate.
  • Operates direct radiography (DR) equipment as well as portable fluoroscopic and diagnostic operating room equipment
  • Performs procedures on the Units, the Emergency Department and in the Operating Rooms with portable x-ray machines and portable fluoroscopic C-arm machines and O-arms.
  • Practices radiation safety to reduce exposure to patients, staff, and self.
  • Maintains supplies needed to perform all examinations in the assigned room or area.
  • Captures direct radiographic (DR) radiographs and applies algorithm, configures the image, and verifies patient information before transmitting them to the picture archive system (PACS).

Work Schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday with every other weekend - 7:30am to 4:00pm

Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases

Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience.

Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.

Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66

Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA

Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)
