The CUNY School of Medicine (CUNY SoM) located in the heart of Harlem, New York, is the only medical school in the City University of New York system and the only public medical school in Manhattan. Building upon 50 years of success as the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education, the institution transitioned to the CUNY School of Medicine (SoM) in 2016. The CUNY SoM offers an accelerated BS/MD degree (7‑year program), Post‑baccalaureate Master’s program (1‑year), and a Physician Assistant Master’s Degree (27‑month program). The CUNY SoM has five departments: Department of Molecular, Cellular, and Biomedical Sciences (MCBS) was formed through the merger of several basic science departments and represents one of the four departments in the school (Community Health and Social Medicine, Medical Education, and Clinical Medicine). All departments play a critical role in our mission‑driven BS/MD program, post‑bac program and Physician Assistant program through the teaching of the basic science curriculum and by conducting extramurally funded research. The research agenda of the current members of the departments is centered on neuroscience, microbiology and immunology, cardiovascular disease, oncology, social determinants of health, and community health. The selected candidate will be placed in the most appropriate department based upon their credentials and experience.

Responsibilities

• Postdoctoral or fellowship training or equivalent advanced research experience in Anatomy or related biomedical or clinical sciences.
• Teach gross human anatomy to medical and PA students in lecture, laboratory, and small group settings, including cadaveric dissection.
• Serve as a content expert in anatomy and contribute to integrated, systems‑based, and clinically relevant curricula.
• Contribute to instruction in embryology and histology as needed within organ‑system‑based or other integrated curricular frameworks.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate anatomy curriculum components, including laboratory‑based and technology‑enhanced learning (simulation, digital anatomy platforms, 3D imaging).
• Lead student‑centered learning sessions across lecture, prosection, small group, and laboratory formats.
• Participate in assessment activities, including laboratory practical examinations, OSCEs, and curriculum evaluation.
• Collaborate with faculty across disciplines to align instruction with institutional Educational Program Objectives (EPOs), foundational competencies, and course‑level learning outcomes.
• Mentor and advise students in academic success and scholarly development.
• Serve on institutional committees, including curriculum and admissions committees.
• Engage in scholarly activity.
• Uphold an inclusive and equitable learning environment consistent with CUNY SOM’s mission.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Chair of the Department.

Qualifications

• Doctoral degree (Ph.D., D.O., M.D., or equivalent) in anatomy, or a related health sciences field.
• Demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence and student‑centered learning in classroom, laboratory, or related instructional settings, including cadaveric or prosection‑based anatomy.

Preferred

• Postdoctoral or fellowship training or equivalent advanced research experience in Anatomy or related biomedical or clinical sciences.
• Experience teaching gross human anatomy in a medical, PA, or other health professions program.
• Experience teaching embryology, histology, or neuroanatomy within organ‑system‑based or integrated health professions curricula.
• Experience with prosection‑ and dissection‑based laboratory instruction, including cadaveric laboratory management.
• Experience collaborating across pre‑clerkship and clinical phases of MD training.
• Proficiency with active learning methodologies, including PBL, CBL, and TBL.
• Background in curriculum development, course administration, and assessment design, including laboratory practical examinations and course improvement initiatives.
• Experience with educational technologies such as digital anatomy platforms, simulation, virtual reality, or other digital learning tools.
• Experience teaching clinically relevant medical imaging (ultrasound, radiography, CT, MRI, 3D imaging) in support of anatomy instruction.
• Experience with student coaching, feedback, and practical or OSCE‑related assessment.
• Evidence of scholarly activity through publications, presentations, educational research, or grant‑supported work in anatomy, medical education, or a related field.
• Familiarity with FERPA, HIPAA, and relevant academic, clinical, and laboratory compliance requirements.

• Medical Associate Professor (Basic Science): $100,052 – $149,375
• Medical Professor (Basic Science): $119,128 – $169,995

Non‑Tenure‑Track Appointments

• Medical Clinical Professor (Med Series): $79,127 – $227,755
