What is virtual production?

A Virtual Production job involves using real-time technology, such as game engines and LED volumes, to blend digital and physical filmmaking techniques. Professionals in this field work with tools like Unreal Engine, motion capture, and immersive environments to create seamless visual effects and virtual sets. Roles in Virtual Production can range from technical artists and LED operators to cinematographers specializing in real-time workflows. This approach allows filmmakers to visualize scenes interactively, make creative decisions faster, and reduce post-production costs. It's a rapidly growing field that bridges filmmaking, VFX, and game development.

What does a virtual production specialist do?

In a Virtual Production role, your day often involves previsualizing scenes, setting up and operating virtual cameras, managing real-time graphics, and collaborating closely with directors, VFX teams, and camera crews. You may be responsible for troubleshooting technical issues in real time and ensuring that digital assets are optimized for immediate feedback on set. The work environment is highly collaborative and fast-paced, requiring both technical proficiency and creative input. Often, you'll participate in meetings to align on creative direction and provide technical support during live shoots. This dynamic role keeps you at the intersection of technology and storytelling, offering variety and opportunities to innovate every day.

What skills and qualifications are needed for virtual production?

To thrive in Virtual Production, you typically need a strong grasp of digital imaging, real-time rendering, 3D visualization, and familiarity with film or television production pipelines. Experience with virtual production technologies such as Unreal Engine, motion capture systems, and real-time compositing tools is often required, and certifications or training in these platforms can be beneficial. Excellent collaboration, problem-solving, and communication skills are essential for coordinating across creative and technical departments. These abilities are crucial for ensuring seamless integration of digital and live-action elements on set, meeting project deadlines, and supporting high-quality content delivery.

Job description

Voia is building the next-generation of virtual production technology, and the demand is growing fast.

We're looking for a contract VFX Producer with feature film experience to help drive our client engagements from kickoff to delivery. This is a hybrid, client-facing role that blends technical fluency with strong people skills — you're as comfortable troubleshooting an asset pipeline as you are guiding a client through scope and expectations.

Experience working both on a physical set and in an office/studio environment is ideal, since you'll be moving between production contexts and translating between them for clients and internal teams alike.

What You'll Do

  • Serve as the primary client-facing point of contact for assigned projects, building trust and clear communication throughout the engagement
  • Manage asset pipelines end-to-end, keeping delivereables organized, on-track, and easy to hand off between teams
  • Advise clients and their teams on Voia best practices, drawing on real production experience and a deep understanding of our offering
  • Offer hands-on guidance and support to artists and production staff as projects move through each stage
  • Define, communicate, and hold projects to a clear scope of work — flagging scope creep early and keeping delivery on track
  • Bridge on-set and in-office workflows, having worked in both environments yourself

What You Bring

  • Feature film production experience as a VFX Producer or in a closely related role
  • Experience on physical sets as well as in an office/studio pipeline environment
  • Strong client-facing communication skills alongside solid technical/pipeline knowledge
  • A track record of defining and protecting scope of work on complex projects
  • Comfort operating independently in a hybrid, fast-moving environment
  • Comfortable driving workflows involving Unreal Engine, Blender, Nuke, and NLE's

Timeline: October 2026 - February 2027

Compensation: $55 - $75/hr
