What is a Virtual PRN RN?

A Virtual PRN RN (as-needed Registered Nurse) provides remote nursing care, typically through telehealth platforms. Responsibilities may include patient assessments, triage, education, and coordination of care. This role offers flexibility, allowing nurses to work on an as-needed basis without a fixed schedule. Virtual PRN RNs must have strong communication skills, clinical experience, and a reliable internet connection to deliver quality care remotely.

What does a Virtual PRN RN do?

As a Virtual PRN RN, your shifts often vary based on patient demand, and you may be scheduled to work during evenings, nights, or weekends to cover peak times or urgent needs. You will spend your time conducting remote patient assessments, triaging cases, providing education, and coordinating care—all through secure telehealth platforms. The PRN (per diem) structure means you have flexibility in selecting shifts that fit your availability, making it an ideal option for nurses seeking a non-traditional work schedule. Collaboration with physicians, case managers, and support staff is common, and effective communication with both patients and colleagues is key to delivering high-quality care.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Virtual PRN RN?

To excel as a Virtual PRN RN, you need an active RN license, a strong background in clinical nursing, and excellent remote assessment skills. Familiarity with telehealth platforms, secure electronic health records (EHRs), and HIPAA compliance protocols is essential. Outstanding communication, self-motivation, and time management are crucial soft skills for success in this role. These abilities enable Virtual PRN RNs to deliver effective, patient-centered care and respond promptly to acute needs in a remote and often independent work environment.

What is the best remote job for registered nurses?

A virtual PRN RN is a remote nursing role that offers flexible scheduling and the ability to work from home. These positions often involve telehealth consultations, patient education, and care coordination, requiring strong communication skills and relevant licensure. They are suitable for experienced nurses seeking part-time or on-demand work in a remote setting.

Job description

Brand-New Inpatient Rehabilitation Hospital Opening November 2026!
Here we grow again! ClearSky Health is opening yet another brand-new hospital-this time in Eau Claire, WI-coming November 2026.
Are you passionate about helping to heal and transform the lives of those living with disabling injuries and illnesses? At our hospitals, we treat patients who have suffered from strokes, brain and spinal cord injuries, hip fractures, and more. This is a different type of rehabilitative care than most are familiar with. It is high-level, intensive physical therapy-resulting in many of our hospitals receiving the recognition of being ranked in the Top 10% nationwide for rehabilitation in recent years.
We are seeking registered nurses that are committed to excellence, just as we are. Interviews will begin late August-early September. We are currently slated to host all staff orientation in November and take our first patient in December 2026.
If you are interested in helping to build something from the ground up, you aren't afraid of a challenge, and you are a results-driven registered nurse ready to reshape the landscape of rehabilitative care in your very own community-we want to hear from you. Submit your application today to be considered for some of our first openings as we look to begin staffing this brand-new facility in Eau Claire.
We will be hiring full-time nurses for both day and night shifts, as well as PRN.
A member of our team will reach out if you are selected for consideration as we begin the interview process in coming months.
