Registered Nurse (RN) – Hospital Emergency DepartmentPart-Time or PRN | Night ShiftJoin the Hopedale Medical Complex Team!

Hopedale Medical Complex is seeking compassionate and skilled Registered Nurses (RNs) to join our Hospital Emergency Department on a Part-Time or PRN basis.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced nurse looking for additional flexibility while remaining part of a collaborative hospital team. Our ER nurses provide high-quality care in a community hospital environment with low nurse-to-patient ratios and strong support from physicians and other healthcare professionals.

The primary assignment for this position is the Emergency Department, with cross-training and occasional assignment to the Medical-Surgical floor as patient care and staffing needs require.

Schedule

Part-Time or PRN | Night Shift

  • 6:00 p.m. – 6:30 a.m.
  • Part-time and PRN scheduling available
  • Weekend and holiday availability required based on department needs
  • Part-time employees are expected to work 24 to 29 hours weekly, two shifts per month must be weekend shifts, and two major holidays must be worked per year.
  • PRN employees are expected to maintain availability and work requirements established by the department
  • Cross-training to the Medical-Surgical floor is required

About the Position

The Hospital Emergency Department RN provides professional and compassionate nursing care to patients with a wide range of medical conditions and acuity levels. The RN is responsible for assessing patients, implementing nursing interventions, administering medications and treatments, monitoring patient responses, and communicating effectively with physicians and other members of the healthcare team.

The primary department is the Emergency Department; however, the RN will be expected to cross-train and provide nursing support on the Medical-Surgical floor when needed.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Perform comprehensive nursing assessments and monitor patient conditions.
  • Provide safe, compassionate, and individualized patient care.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate nursing interventions based on patient needs.
  • Administer medications, IV therapy, and other treatments as ordered.
  • Carry out physician orders accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Recognize changes in patient condition and respond appropriately to emergency situations.
  • Assist with patient positioning, transfers, and transportation while maintaining patient safety and comfort.
  • Operate and maintain proficiency with equipment, instruments, supplies, and procedures relevant to the Emergency Department.
  • Accurately document assessments, treatments, interventions, patient responses, and other pertinent information in the medical record.
  • Communicate patient conditions, critical findings, orders, and other pertinent information to physicians and healthcare team members.
  • Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
  • Provide patient and family education as appropriate.
  • Participate in emergency response and code situations.
  • Cross-train and provide nursing support to the Medical-Surgical floor as needed.
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA, infection prevention, patient safety, and hospital policies.
  • Participate in required education, training, competency assessments, and quality improvement activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Current, unrestricted Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
  • Current CPR/AED certification or ability to obtain upon hire.
  • Emergency Department and/or ICU experience preferred, but not required.
  • Strong patient assessment, critical-thinking, and clinical decision-making skills.
  • Ability to respond effectively and calmly in emergency and high-stress situations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with physicians, nurses, patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple patient care responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of infection prevention, universal precautions, and exposure control practices.
  • Willingness to cross-train and work in both the Emergency Department and Medical-Surgical areas.
  • Ability and willingness to work the overnight shift, including weekends and holidays as scheduled.

  • Ability to frequently bend, stoop, reach, push, pull, and reposition patients.

  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to use hands and fingers for medication administration, documentation, equipment operation, and other patient-care activities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and healthcare team members.
  • Ability to respond quickly and appropriately during emergency situations.
  • Ability to work in an environment involving exposure to blood, bodily fluids, infectious materials, and other healthcare-related hazards while following appropriate safety and PPE requirements.
