Job Description:
The Registered Nurse (RN) provides skilled nursing care and patient support within a plastic surgery clinic. The RN works closely with plastic surgeons, advanced practice providers, and the clinical team to deliver safe, high-quality, and compassionate care. This role involves pre-operative and post-operative patient education, clinical support during in-office procedures, coordination of care, and ensuring an exceptional patient experience.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide direct patient care in the clinic, including assessments, vital signs, medication administration, and wound/dressing care.
  • Educate patients and families on pre- and post-operative instructions, recovery expectations, and treatment plans.
  • Perform pre-operative assessments, coordinate necessary testing, and assist with patient preparation.
  • Deliver post-operative care, including monitoring for complications and managing drains or dressings.
  • Assist surgeons with in-office procedures (e.g., minor surgical interventions, injections).
  • Document all patient encounters accurately and timely in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Complete and process patient paperwork, including FMLA forms, ensuring accurate submission to the appropriate parties.
  • Submit surgeon's orders (e.g., anesthesia, antibiotics) to hospitals prior to patient appointments and surgeries to ensure readiness on the day of surgery.
  • Maintain patient rooms, including restocking supplies and communicating supply needs to management.
  • Ensure compliance with infection prevention protocols, sterile techniques, and surgical clinic standards.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of plastic surgery procedures, including pre-operative and post-operative care, wound management, and patient education.
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills to identify complications and support safe patient outcomes.
  • Knowledge of infection prevention, sterile technique, and patient safety standards in a surgical clinic setting.
  • Strong organizational and coordination skills to manage patient care, testing, documentation, and surgical preparation.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills to support patient education and deliver an exceptional patient experience.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee is required.
  • BLS certification required or must be obtained within three months of hire.
  • A minimum of two years of nursing experience is required; with at least one year in a surgical, plastic surgery, dermatology, or outpatient clinic setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of surgical and aesthetic procedures, wound care, and post-operative recovery processes.
  • Strong communication and patient education skills, with the ability to explain complex information clearly.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical environment.
PHYSICIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Prolonged periods of standing, walking, or sitting may be required during clinic hours.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds and occasionally assist with positioning or transferring patients.
  • Requires manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to operate clinical equipment and assist with procedures.
  • Ability to see, hear, and communicate clearly to assess patient needs and respond appropriately.
  • Must be able to bend, reach, and perform repetitive tasks as necessary in a clinical environment.
