Job description

Surgical Specialty Clinic Registered Nurse

The Surgical Specialty Clinic Registered Nurse will be expected to perform duties in the various Surgical Specialty Clinics (Neuro-Surgery, Bariatric, Surg Oncology, Cardio-Thoracic Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Wound-Ostomy, GYN, General Surgery, Plastic Surgery, ENT and Ortho). The RN will perform duties and work in an academic setting. The RN performs an autonomous role, triaging unscheduled patients, answering and documenting telephone encounters, supporting and utilizing various computer programs and documenting care within the electronic medical record. The RN will follow clinic protocols and assist Providers with clinics and procedures. The RN optimizes patient care delivery and patient outcomes. The RN provides care to patients with pre and post - surgical medical conditions and will utilize skills to promote active participation in the development of patient driven goals for health optimization. Registered Nurse Outpatient Surgical Specialty Clinic is responsible for providing competent, evidence based education to staff; duties include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care.
  • Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care based on age specific components.
  • Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care.
  • Administers medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines.
  • Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Executes position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to management of complex client care.
  • Patient education, Pre-Surgical Assessments
  • Coordinating activities as directed by the physician or licensed provider.
  • Assist with patient concerns.
  • Participate in process improvement and safety initiatives.
  • Promote a positive customer environment of care.
  • Cross-train across all surgical clinics as needed and be assigned by the Nurse Manager or Assistant Nurse Manager.
