GENERAL DUTIES

Customer Service

Financial Stability


Advises supervisor of current or anticipated problems. Effectively uses time and resources to accomplish their duties. Self-starter who willingly puts forth effort and time and performs tasks with minimal supervision. Resolves conflicting matters and schedules with peers and other staff. Willingly accepts assignments and completes in a timely fashion. Appropriately uses time and attendance system and adheres to related policies and procedures. Adheres to CHNOLA's policies and procedures, as well as the Code of Conduct and all laws and regulations. Perform your duties in an ethical manner. Ability to work on or with teams to cooperatively reach goals. Appropriately documents in accordance with departmental and organizational policies. Able to apply job knowledge to improve work processes.

Patient Care

Prepares patient for office visit by collecting vital signs, pain rating, allergies, and reason for visit, prior to being seen by physician. Assess each patient for Abuse, Fall Risk, Functional Assessment, Advance Directives prior to being seen by the physician. Records allergies, vital signs, reason for visit, current medications, and social and past medical history, Abuse, Fall Risk, Functional Assessment, Advance Directives in patient record's medical record. Obtains patient tests prior to/or after seeing the physician. Discusses plan of care with physician before, during and following patient visit. Administers treatments at the direction of the physician and documents and submits charges as required. Under the direction of a registered nurse, administers prescribed medications and/or vaccines via ordered route in accordance with department policy. Considers patient growth and development and uses proper technique for infant, toddler, school-aged, adolescent, young adult, and adult patients. Cleans and reorganizes exam room after visit.

Communicates with patients, pharmacies, hospitals, and other medical related personnel.

Communicates information between patients and physician regarding labs/test results, medications, appointments, etc. Communicates with pharmacies regarding patient medication refills and new prescriptions. Records all communication in patient record. Sorts and distributes correspondence, test results, and scans in patient medical record, after physician review and sign off. Completes assigned tasks timely.

Prepares patient and room for procedures performed in office.

Communicates information between patients and physician regarding labs/test results, medications, appointments, etc. Provides privacy and instruction to patient pre and post procedure. Obtains specimen, complete appropriate paperwork, and deliver specimen to designated location. Applies supportive devices or bandages as ordered by physician and documents appropriate information in patient's record. Documents and submits charges in patient record.

Safety & Infection Control Standards:

Stock treatment rooms and keeps supplies organized. Stocks exam rooms at least weekly with frequently used items. Keeps supplies/linens organized, monitors supplies/linens to assure adequate supply and advises nurse of supplies in low supply.

Monitors equipment and surgical instruments. Packages, labels and sends surgical instruments to central sterilization as needed. Ensures used instruments are cleaned daily. Inspects equipment to ensure it is operating properly and reports equipment needing repairs promptly to Nurse or clinic/office Manager. Updates Recommendations (health maintenance) as needed in the patient's medical record. Checks Quality Assurance logs to aid in maintaining quality patient care. Checks Refrigerator logs daily.

Clerical clinic support:

Participates in all scheduled clinic Participates in the clinic preparation process by gathering appropriate clinical documentation for review by the medical provider / licensed independent practitioner. Demonstrates knowledge of all equipment including computers, printers, scanners & fax machines. Obtains medical records from outside facilities when needed or requested by medical provider. Scans outside correspondence into the appropriate area of the electronic medical record. Answers the telephone and routes calls promptly to the appropriate person.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

Accept and performs other assigned duties essential to the efficient operation of the clinic and/or Division of Ambulatory Services. Performs specialty specific testing and/or minor procedures under the direct supervision of the physician or registered nurse. Upon evaluation of the clinical presentation and individual needs of the patient, the MAII may modify the testing procedure as per protocol established. Provides initial patient screening during an in-office procedure or test. Monitors patient for changes including blood pressure, heart rate, rhythm, signs and symptoms. The MA understands the importance of these changes and when they require immediate physician attention.


EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma, GED or equivalent or 2 years of appropriate work experience.


LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

Required: American Association of Medical Assistants - Certified Medical Assistant ORNational Healthcareer Association - Certified Clinical Medical Assistant OR

Required: Certified Medical Assistant - NPCE OR

Required: American Heart Association - Basic Life Support Health Care Provider OR

Required: Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) OR

Required: NCCT Certification for Medical Assistants


SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Clinical skills: vital signs, documentation, specimen labeling and transport, medication administration, computer skills.
