Job description

The Role

The Instructional Designer & Facilitator designs, builds, and delivers the learning experiences that prepare Mathnasium franchise owners, Center Directors, and center staff to run successful Mathnasium Learning Centers. This role pairs instructional design with live facilitation.

The Instructional Designer will design, implement, and iterate asynchronous learning as well as live (virtual and on-site in Los Angeles) facilitation to support the training of new franchise owners, development of existing franchisees, and support center level operations.

Key Responsibilities

Instructional Design

  • Design and build engaging learning experiences toward clear, measurable outcomes
  • Apply a range of instructional methods, adult learning practices, and media formats to maximize learning effectiveness
  • Develop learning content in a variety of formats (eLearning courses, guides, job aids, videos, etc.) to support knowledge and learning retention
  • Design learning assets that extend learning beyond formal training events and strengthen on-the-job application, such as walkthrough videos, screen recordings, interactive demonstrations, and digital resources.
  • Ensure learning experiences are engaging and contribute to a positive learning experience for our franchisees, even in virtual environments
  • Work within the L&D team and cross-org to ensure consistency, accuracy, and quality of instructional content
  • Partner with field and franchise owners to improve learning experiences based on feedback and insights
  • Evaluate and iterate existing learning content to support iterations and updates
  • Review, analyze, and iterate based on training feedback and insights
  • Determine instructional strategies, learning modalities, formats, and curation approaches to optimize learning effectiveness and knowledge retention.

Facilitation

  • Deliver, present, and facilitate both in-person and online sessions to support franchise learning journeys
  • Train on Mathnasium center operations, systems, and best practices, adapting to the needs of adult learners
  • Read learner needs in real time and adjust delivery to ensure active participation, engagement, and learning
  • Facilitation responsibilities may include virtual training, workshops, office hours, and other learner-facing experiences that support franchisee development and engagement
  • Training load varies within the training calendar and can include back-to-back sessions, multi-day training events, and weeks where live delivery takes priority over design work
  • This role includes travel for in-center training delivery within the Los Angeles area. This position is not remote-eligible.
Candidate Profile

The strongest candidate is part instructional designer and part facilitator: someone who can create and iterate learning experiences in a variety of formats and also facilitate instructor-led training. This individual has created eLearning and delivered training to adult audiences.

  • Degree: Training, professional learning, or certification in Instructional Design. Bachelor's Degree in Education, Instructional Design, Learning & Development, or a related field preferred.
  • Background: Experience creating and delivering learning content for adult learners. Experience working within Education or EdTech strongly preferred.
  • Instructional Design Experience: Experience designing and delivering learning experiences that span multiple modalities. Fluent creating engaging digital and instructor-led content, including comfort producing and editing media such as video, audio, and visual aids.
  • Facilitation Experience: Experience training or facilitating for adult audiences. Strong live facilitation and presentation skills, in person and online, with genuine comfort leading and adapting to a room
  • Stamina & Flexibility: Comfortable managing a demanding and variable facilitation schedule, including back-to-back sessions and high-delivery weeks, Technical Fluency: Comfortable and experienced across learning and development tech stacks, including virtual meeting platforms, course authoring software, digital design tools, video and demo software, and LMS platform experience.
  • Customer-Mindset: Clear, friendly, and supportive in all written and verbal communication to support a positive franchisee experience
  • Math & Education Passion: Passion in making a positive impact on the lives of children with interest in math and/or education

This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Employees may be asked to perform other related duties to meet the ongoing needs of the department and organization.
