Job description

The Lansing School District serves over 10,000 PreK-12 students across 25 school buildings in the increasingly diverse urban community of Lansing, MI. We are unique compared to other districts because of the wide variety of exciting and innovative educational options from which families and staff members can choose. All of Lansing School District's team members are dedicated to our mission to provide an excellent education to all students in a safe and nurturing environment.
In pursuit of this mission, we are looking to hire math interventionists. This position will be based at the Newcomer Center and other district locations, working directly with multilingual learners (6th-12th grade) who have newly arrived to the district. The ML Math Specialist will provide targeted small-group math interventions, support students in developing essential academic language, collaborate with district staff, and utilize data-driven strategies to enhance student outcomes.
This is a part time position. Part time with an adjusted salary range
Qualifications
  • Completed a Bachelor's Degree
  • Valid Michigan Teaching certificate with Math (EX) or (ZGZOZP) endorsement
  • Must be able to demonstrate high qualified status in required endorsement area
  • Must be able to analyze WIDA, NWEA, MSTEP and PSAT data
  • Must demonstrated knowledge of youth and ability to teach them
  • Must demonstrate NCLB highly qualified status in subject area
  • Must possess the ability to support and promote sound instruction
  • Demonstrated abilities to work effectively with parents, administrators, students and staff
  • Must demonstrate willingness to participate in professional development
  • Must understand tier 2 and 3 intervention for math
  • Must be able to collaborate effectively with teachers in ILC

Job Responsibilities
  • Provide academic support and tutoring to students in grades 9-12, both in person and online, with a focus on Math content and related coursework.
  • Monitor attendance and coursework completion fora designated grade -level cohort, using data systems and online platforms.
  • Take and maintain attendance records based on student engagement and coursework progress.
  • Actively participate in weekly Student Progress Meetings to discuss student needs and plan targeted interventions.
  • Collaborate closely with teachers, counselors, and administrators to implement individualized support strategies.
  • Leverage online systems such as Enginuity to track student progress and assist with virtual instruction.
  • Build positive relationships with students to foster academic motivation, consistency, and accountability.
  • Use Microsoft Excel and other data tracking tools to manage and report on student progress and intervention effectiveness.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team focused on student achievement.
  • Function as a self-starter, capable of managing a flexible schedule and adapting support based on student needs.
  • Assist with the administration and coordination of both state and local testing, including preparation, proctoring, and follow-up tasks.
  • Ensure compliance with testing protocols and timelines, supporting accurate and efficient test implementation.

  • Regular use of computers and instructional technology for planning, instruction, and communication.
  • Must be able to lift or carry instructional materials and supplies weighing up to 25 pounds.
