Salary Range: $18.00 per hour

About the Role:
We're seeking a motivated and knowledgeable IT Tutor to support students in School of Information Technology (IT) courses. This position involves providing in-person and virtual tutoring in a supportive, inclusive environment that fosters academic growth. This position will provide one-on-one and group tutoring sessions, assist with workshops, and contribute to maintaining a welcoming learning space. An ideal candidate will have completed and excelled in foundational IT courses, demonstrate strong communication and problem-solving skills, and show a genuine passion for student success.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The following is not to be construed as an exhaustive list. Other duties logically associated with this position may be assigned. All responsibilities will be conducted within the parameters of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), other applicable regulatory requirements, and professional standards.

    • Tutor students one-on-one or in small groups in-person and virtually.
    • Lead or assist with group study sessions and workshops.
    • Track and document student interactions for outcome reporting.
    • Apply strong problem-solving skills to address student questions effectively.
    • Collaborate with staff and other tutors to support student success initiatives.
    • Promote a safe, friendly, and positive learning environment.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    We need candidates who can demonstrate the practical skills and experience necessary to excel in this role. A proven track record of tutoring, teaching, or coaching others through learning IT content and computer-related processes will be prioritized.

    Required Skills & Competencies:

    1. Subject Matter Expertise

    • Proficiency in introductory School of IT course content (Informatics and Data Visualization; Database Management and SQL; Software Development including Python, C++, C#, Java and JavaScript; IT Support Fundamentals; Network Fundamentals and Infrastructure).

    2. Tutoring & Problem-Solving Skills

    • Ability to think critically, identify student concerns, and address root challenges in a timely manner.
    • Familiarity with and/or hands-on experience tutoring, teaching, or coaching others through learning and skill development processes.
    • Support students with patience, clarity, and structured problem-solving.
    • Willingness to engage beyond surface-level answers to ensure deep understanding.

    3. Communication

    • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate ideas clearly to diverse audiences, provide non-judgmental feedback, and build positive rapport with others.
    • Ability to demonstrate strong customer service and student advocacy skills.

    4. Learning Environment Management Skills

    • Proven experience in collaborating effectively with diverse teams to achieve common goals.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities/assistance to multiple students in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
    • Ability to maintain an inclusive, clean, and student-centered environment.


    5. Technology Proficiency

    • Comfortable with basic computer operations and troubleshooting.
    • Familiarity with Zoom and other virtual instruction tools.

    6. Organizational & Professional Skills

    • Ability to accurately record details for reporting purposes.
    • Proven experience in maintaining reliable and professional behavior.

    Preferred Additional Skills:

    • Successful completion of advanced (200+ level) IT coursework preferred.
    • Familiarity with tutoring best practices.
    • Experience teaching or tutoring IT content at the secondary or college level, customer service, or similar environments.
    • Ability to demonstrate a positive attitude of approachability and adaptability.
