DESCRIPTION OF THE DISTRICT:
The Brandon School District is a mid-size school district nestled in Northwest Oakland County. The district has approximately 1,000 students in junior kindergarten-5th grade between the two elementary schools, approximately 600 at the middle school level and approximately 850 at the high school. This small, tight knit community has a strong connection to its schools and is passionate about the education of its youth. Brandon High School sends 85-90% of its graduates to post-secondary school each year, it was ranked in the 82nd percentile of all schools in the State on the top-to-bottom rankings and it was awarded as a Silver Medal Winner by the US News. Our elementary schools are both one-to-one technology are each near the 83rd percentile in State rankings.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with the proper Secondary Math endorsement
  • Experience teaching secondary students preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to communicate and work cooperatively with students, parents and district staff
  • Ability to foster a supportive classroom environment
  • Ability to instruct students in grades 9-12 in various mathematical concepts, ranging from Algebra and Geometry to Calculus and Statistics
  • Ability to relate mathematical concepts to real-world applications
  • Experience with technology integration (e.g., virtual math tools)
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment
  • Ability to manage all aspects of the position which includes interacting with students during the day, and time for planning and grading

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Teach district approved curriculum
  • Develop students' theoretical and applied mathematical skills and prepare them for college, trade school, or the workforce
  • Plan, teach, and assess student learning while collaborating with colleagues, parents, and administrators to meet academic goals
  • Adapt teaching methods to meet the individual needs, learning styles, and skill levels of diverse students, including providing extra support or enrichment
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials; provide individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student
  • Create and grade assignments, quizzes, and tests to monitor evaluate students' academic and social growth and use this data to adjust instruction; keep appropriate records and prepares progress reports
  • Communicate regularly with parents outside normal classroom day by means of newsletters, notes, phone calls, conferences, etc.
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere
  • Identify student needs and makes appropriate referrals and develops strategies for individual education plans
  • Create a safe, orderly, and productive learning environment that promotes student engagement, often utilizing positive behavior management systems
  • Other duties may be assigned
