ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES These requirements are a representation of the types of duties and responsibilities that will be required of positions given this title and shall not be construed as an exhaustive list of specific duties and responsibilities. Management may direct employees to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description. The CROP Part-Time Instructor is responsible for providing high-quality instruction, academic support, and enrichment to middle and high school students participating in the College Reach-Out Program.
Key duties include: Deliver engaging, subject-specific instruction aligned with state standards and CROP academic goals for grades 6-12. Plan and facilitate lessons, activities, and practice sessions that strengthen foundational skills. Prepare students for academic assessments including FSA/EOC exams, statewide diagnostics, college readiness tests, and Florida Education Fund competition events.
Provide individualized and small-group tutoring to address learning gaps and reinforce essential skills. Incorporate real-world subject matter applications to promote problem-solving, critical thinking, and college/career readiness. Monitor student progress through informal checks, assignments, and pre-/post-assessments.
Maintain accurate attendance and participation records in accordance with program requirements. Communicate effectively with students, parents, and CROP staff regarding progress, needs, and achievements. Support program enrichment activities, including weekend College Saturdays, field trips, and special events, as needed.
Maintain a positive, inclusive, and motivating learning environment that encourages student confidence and engagement. Participate in required training sessions and meetings to ensure alignment with program objectives and instructional expectations. Maintain student confidentiality in alignment with FERPA and college policies.
Perform other duties as assigned. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Reading, English, History, Mathematics, Math Education, STEM Education, Engineering, or a related quantitative field from a regionally accredited institution. Experience supporting diverse learners and the ability to differentiate instruction to meet a range of academic needs.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES Familiarity with Florida reading and math standards and secondary-level content. Strong communication and classroom management skills suitable for small- and large-group instruction. Ability to collaborate with program staff, parents, and school partners to support student success.
Commitment to college and career readiness initiatives and to the mission of the College Reach-Out Program (CROP). Solid understanding of middle and high school reading, English, or mathematics, including Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II; additional STEM knowledge is a plus. Familiarity with college and career readiness concepts, including standardized assessments, academic enrichment strategies, and foundational skills for postsecondary success.
Awareness of developmental needs of adolescents and best practices for motivating and engaging diverse learners. Understanding of Florida education standards and curriculum expectations. Strong instructional and tutoring skills with the ability to break down complex math concepts into clear, accessible steps.
Effective classroom management and the ability to maintain a positive, structured learning environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills for working with students, families, and partner schools. Skilled in using technology and digital learning tools to enhance instruction (e.g., learning platforms, virtual tools, calculators)
Strong organizational skills, including lesson planning, progress tracking, and maintaining accurate student records. Ability to build rapport with students and foster a supportive, encouraging academic environment. Ability to assess student learning needs and adjust instructional strategies accordingly.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a small, mission-driven team. Ability to model professionalism, dependability, and a commitment to student success. Ability to adapt to flexible program hours, including occasional evenings or weekends.
