Job description

Regional Special Education Coach

Mission:

The mission of the Regional Special Education Coach is to oversee instructional special education programming for assigned schools to ensure maximum student achievement. This role involves coaching campus leaders to support students served through special education programs. The coach will build collaborative partnerships between regional support personnel, external contracted services, and assigned campuses to ensure IDEA's special education instructional model is implemented effectively.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

No direct supervisory responsibilities

Location:

This is a full-time position based in Austin, with preference given to those who live in the region, or who are willing to relocate.

Travel Expectations:

Travel within the Region throughout the year as necessary (3-4 days a week)

Travel to IDEA training events or step-back maybe required.

What You'll Do - Accountabilities

Essential Duties:

Coach and develop campus staff to ensure all Special Education students in their schools increase STAAR/STAAR ALT Reading and Math performance by 10 percentage points.

Coach and develop campus staff to read, analyze, and respond to Interim Assessment data to prioritize the highest leverage next action steps.

Coach and develop campus staff to ensure 100% of Special Education Plans are implemented with fidelity.

Coach lead team members on holding all staff accountable for implementation of special education accommodations through utilization of instructional round and GET observation tools

Facilitate high-leverage professional development sessions aimed at building the knowledge and skills necessary for Special Education Teachers and leaders.

Ensure 100% of Special Education teachers and co-teachers are coached towards mastery and rated on all strands of GET 1A and GET 1B using corresponding teacher pathways.

Ensure 90% retention of Special Education Coaches, RISE Special Education Teachers, and Special Education Teachers and Co-Teachers from year to year.

They have developing skills in empathetic listening and responsive speaking, with ability to tailor messages for individual direct reports or peers with the aim to build stronger, more effective relationships.

Additional Skills:

Knowledge of the State Assessments

Experience teaching special education students

Experience with curriculum for students with high-incidence disabilities

Knowledge of instructional best practices for the relevant content area

Instructional coaching knowledge: To coach regional staff through coaching cycles to increase the impact of their influence during campus visits and creation of professional development aligned to our coaching model.

Developing adult professional development (virtual and in-person)

Required experience:

Bachelor's degree

2-3 years of experience working with students in Special Education

Certification in Special Education

Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, Excel, and LMS

Physical Requirements:

Some walking

Sitting for extended periods of time

Light lifting (no more than 20 lbs.)

Salaries for people entering this role typically fall between $78,900 and $92,000, commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications and in alignment with internal equity. This role is also eligible for performance pay based on organizational performance and goal attainment.
