What is a virtual LPC?

Virtual LPCs are Licensed Professional Counselors who provide mental health counseling services remotely through secure online platforms. They offer the same support and guidance as in-person counselors, including therapy for individuals, couples, or groups, but sessions take place via video calls, phone, or messaging. Virtual LPCs are required to hold the same licensure as traditional counselors and adhere to privacy and ethical guidelines. This approach allows clients to access mental health care conveniently from their own location, making counseling more accessible for many people.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a virtual LPC?

To thrive as a Virtual Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), you need a master's degree in counseling or a related field, state licensure, and expertise in mental health assessment and intervention. Familiarity with telehealth platforms, electronic health record systems, and HIPAA compliance is essential. Strong active listening, empathy, and digital communication skills distinguish successful counselors in virtual settings. These competencies ensure effective therapeutic relationships, client confidentiality, and the delivery of quality mental health care remotely.

What are some common challenges faced by virtual LPCs when providing remote counseling, and how can they be addressed?

Virtual Licensed Professional Counselors (LPCs) often encounter challenges such as building rapport with clients through digital platforms, managing technology issues, and ensuring client privacy. To address these, LPCs can use secure, user-friendly telehealth platforms, establish clear communication guidelines, and implement best practices for virtual engagement. Regular training on teletherapy tools and maintaining a structured routine can also help foster a supportive and effective counseling environment.

Job description

About Blackbird Health

Blackbird Health is clinician-founded, owned, and operated by dedicated professionals. We believe that providing the best care for children starts with building the best possible team. We deliver virtual and in-person mental health services across Pennsylvania, Virginia, and New Jersey—and we're growing into new markets in 2026.

At Blackbird, we take a whole-child approach, looking at how the brain, body, and behavior interact to address the root causes of challenges, not just the symptoms. Every role matters here, and you'll join a collaborative, supportive, and innovative team that's shaping the future of pediatric mental health care. If you're passionate about helping children and families while growing your career, Blackbird is the place to make an impact.

Join us and help change mental health care for children for the better!

Position Summary

Blackbird Health is looking for a Child and Adolescent Therapist to join our team remotely. You'll collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to ensure the highest quality of care and be empowered to make a tangible difference in the lives of young patients and their families.

We welcome applicants who are independently licensed in any state — we will sponsor licensure in one or more of our operating states so you can hit the ground running with a full caseload.

Why You'll Love This Role

This role is a great fit for clinicians who want:

  • A predictable base salary with the ability to earn more by taking on additional clients
  • Part-time W-2 employment with full benefits — healthcare, 401(k) and generous paid time off
  • A remote model with flexible scheduling that fits your life
  • A collaborative, mission-driven team that supports your growth
  • Licensure sponsorship — we'll cover the cost of obtaining licensure in one or more of our states so you can expand your reach without out-of-pocket expense
  • The chance to make a real difference for children, adolescents and families through integrated care

Employment Options Available

Part-time positions for independently licensed therapists (LCSW, LPC and LMFT).

W-2 Employee - Part-Time (20 hours/week)

Commitment: 20 hours per week total: 17 hours of direct therapy per week & 3 administrative hours

Schedule: Flexible within business needs, emphasizing after 4pm weekdays and weekends

Work Model: Remote

Compensation & Benefits

Total Earning Potential: Up to $95,000+ annually

This role offers a rare combination of income stability and growth potential — a guaranteed base salary with the flexibility to increase your earnings based on your availability and interest.

Base Salary: $45,000 for a part-time schedule (20 hours/week)

  • Guaranteed income with predictable scheduling
  • 17 clinical hours + 3 administrative hours per week

Additional Earnings: Earn $70 per clinical session for additional clients beyond your base caseload, giving you flexibility to increase income based on availability and interest.

Benefits: Full benefits package including medical, dental, vision, 401(k) with employer match

Paid time off: Generous paid time off plus 11 company holidays

Licensure Sponsorship: We cover the cost of licensure in one or more of our operating states

Development: Ongoing clinical support and professional development

What makes you, you:

  • Experienced clinician with a passion for working with children, adolescents, young adults and their families using evidence-based practices
  • Skilled in facilitating virtual telehealth sessions with strong technical proficiency (Google Suite, EMR systems, virtual platforms)
  • Excited to make an impact and driven by patient outcomes
  • Proactive problem-solver with strong clinical judgment and excellent communication and documentation abilities
  • Dedicated to high-touch, comprehensive care — not just clinical sessions, but true partnership with families and caregivers
  • Collaborative team player who values clinical consultation, feedback, and professional growth

How you'll make an impact:

  • Provide individual evidence-based therapy to children, adolescents, and young adults (ages 2-26), building strong therapeutic relationships through consistent, high-quality care
  • Develop and adjust individualized treatment plans based on ongoing assessment of patient progress
  • Invest in your patient relationships by establishing positive, trusting rapport with patients
  • Participate in consultation to enhance clinical skills and receive feedback and support
  • Collaborate with other specialty providers
  • Maintain thorough, timely clinical documentation and patient records
  • Involve and advise family members or outside specialists when appropriate

The basics you'll need:

  • Independently licensed as an LPC, LMFT, or LCSW in at least one U.S. state
  • Willingness to obtain licensure in one or more of Blackbird's operating states (we cover the cost)
  • Possess one (1) year of experience providing individual, direct care therapy to children and adolescent patients
  • Have one (1) year of experience working in a telehealth or virtual setting
  • Own your own phone, computer, and high-speed internet
  • Flexibility to work during Blackbird's core after-school hours: after 3pm ET during the week and/or weekends

Why Blackbird is unique:

  • Licensure sponsorship — we invest in expanding your license footprint at no cost to you
  • Immediate patient referrals with guaranteed caseload — start seeing patients right away
  • Flexible scheduling within business needs — set your own hours with emphasis on after-school and weekend availability
  • Full administrative support — we handle credentialing, billing, insurance, and EMR so you can focus on clinical care
  • Paid weekly clinical consultation — ongoing support and skill development built into your schedule
  • Professional Liability Insurance
  • Career growth opportunities with increasing responsibilities and leadership pathways as you grow with us

Blackbird Health is made up of intelligent, humble, compassionate and hardworking people. Joining the ranks means you'll have an automatic network to turn to for best practices, professional development, and opportunities to share your expertise.
