Job description

Summary: The Art Designer is responsible for creating accurate, production-ready monument artwork, layouts, proofs, stencil files, and laser files from customer orders and specifications. This position plays a critical role in ensuring all artwork meets customer expectations and company quality standards while supporting efficient production processes. The Art Designer collaborates with Customer Service, Sales, and Production to ensure timely completion of artwork and production files.


Key Responsibilities:

Artwork Design and Proofs

  • Interpret customer orders, sketches, photographs, and specifications to produce accurate artwork.
  • Ensure all artwork complies with customer specifications, company standards, and production requirements.
  • Verify spelling, dates, dimensions, fonts, artwork placement, and symbols prior to releasing proofs.
  • Complete artwork within established production timelines.

Proof Management

  • Prepare customer proofs for approval.
  • Process revisions accurately and efficiently.
  • Ensure approved proofs are attached to production contracts before release to production.
  • Maintain version control of artwork and production files.

Quality Assurance

  • Review all artwork and production files for accuracy and completeness.
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies before files are released.
  • Minimize production errors through attention to detail and adherence to established procedures.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Work closely with Customer Service, Sales, Plant Management, and Production to resolve artwork and production questions.
  • Communicate professionally regarding artwork revisions, production requirements, and timelines.
  • Assist with departmental projects and continuous improvement initiatives.

General Responsibilities

  • Follow all Company policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
  • Maintain organized electronic records and design files.
  • Attend meetings and training as required.
  • Maintain confidentiality of customer and company information.
  • Keep work area clean, organized, and safe.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate work.
  • Ability to interpret customer specifications and translate them into production-ready artwork.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Outlook and Word.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple projects.

Required Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree or technical training in Graphic Design, Drafting, Design Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • Previous experience with graphic design, drafting, manufacturing, or production artwork is preferred but not required.
  • Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered.

Work Environment:

  • Primarily works in an office or production support environment using computers and other design applications.
  • Regularly sits for extended periods while performing computer-based design and production tasks.
  • Frequently uses hands and fingers for keyboard and mouse operation and requires close visual attention to detail.
  • Occasionally stands, walks, bends, reaches, or moves throughout the office and manufacturing facility.
  • May occasionally lift or move materials or equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Regular interaction with Customer Service, Sales, Manufacturing, and Plant personnel.
  • Occasionally enters production areas where exposure to machinery, moving equipment, dust, and moderate noise levels may occur.
  • Must follow all safety policies and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) when entering manufacturing or production areas.
