Position Summary

The Infusion RN is Responsible for providing care and administering infusions/injections to the inflammatory bowel disease patient care, including teaching and case management. Handling patient. phone calls and care in collaboration with the Physician, APP, Clinical Manager, and the director of Infusion Services. Calls may be directly from the patient, staff, outside doctors, pharmacies, long term facilities, and acute care settings. The Nurse will give advice and or take action according to the protocols while ensuring that the patient receives the highest quality of care in a timely manner. Will have to case manage on a case-by-case basis as needed.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Exceptional organization/multi-tasking skills
  • Assess pt. call for urgency and prioritize appropriately
  • Case Manage IBD pt.’s by monitoring their labs, pt. teaching, advising pt.’s regarding problems/symptoms professionally and compassionately at all times
  • Uses EMR systems appropriately and efficiently
  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality
  • Documents pt. care accurately, in the proper location both in gGastro and Epic, and in a timely manner
  • Facilitates a harmonious work environment, treating ALL coworkers with respect and dignity
  • Adheres to policies and procedures as set forth in the Employee Manual
  • Flexibility in meeting the needs of the department/facility
  • Infusion of biologic medications
  • Recognizes adverse reactions and responds accordingly based on department protocols
  • Able to remain calm during stressful times
  • Maintain Records of infusions/pt. record
  • Monitor pt. during biologic medication infusion, vital signs, etc.
  • Starts and maintains paperwork for medications for prior authorizations
  • Maintains and schedules pt. for infusion
  • Maintains infusion schedule
  • Maintains and logs incoming medications as needed along with ordering guidelines
  • Helping answer phone calls/triage help
  • Maintains a safe work environment for pt. and coworkers
  • Performing all other duties but not limited to clerical, faxing, photocopying, and filing
  • All other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current RN licensure in the State ofWisconsin
  • Current BLS certification
  • Three years hospital/medical office RN experience preferred
  • Ability to read and comprehend patient information
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, family members, physicians, coworkers, and outside customers
  • Willingness and ability to travel to other GI Associates locations as needed to support operational needs.

Physical & Mental Demands

  • Able to sit, stand, walk, kneel, bend, reach and stoop throughout entire shift to accomplish tasks
  • Able to push, pull, lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. frequently and up to 50 lbs. occasionally
  • Able to work through interruptions, managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Frequently uses a computer for typing and EMR documentation; requires accurate and efficient data entry abilities
  • Frequently uses the telephone to contact patients for appointment scheduling, follow-up care, test results, and other clinical communications
