Virtual Graphic Design Internships information

What is a virtual graphic design internship?

Virtual graphic design internships are remote opportunities where students or aspiring designers gain practical experience by working for companies or organizations from their own location. Interns collaborate with teams, complete design projects, and receive feedback using online tools and communication platforms. These internships help participants build their portfolios, develop technical and creative skills, and prepare for a career in graphic design. They are ideal for those seeking flexibility or unable to relocate for in-person roles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a virtual graphic design intern?

To thrive as a Virtual Graphic Design Intern, you need foundational knowledge of design principles, proficiency with graphic design software, and a portfolio showcasing creative work. Familiarity with tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and collaborative platforms like Slack or Trello is typically expected. Strong communication, time management, and the ability to take constructive feedback are standout soft skills in this remote role. These skills ensure high-quality design output, effective collaboration, and professional growth in a virtual work environment.

What are some common challenges faced during a virtual graphic design internship and how can they be addressed?

One common challenge in virtual graphic design internships is effective communication and collaboration, as team members and supervisors are not physically present. This can lead to misunderstandings about project requirements or feedback. To overcome this, interns should proactively use digital collaboration tools, schedule regular check-ins, and seek clarification when needed. Staying organized and maintaining a consistent workflow also helps manage deadlines and deliverables, ensuring a successful remote internship experience.

Job description

Who we are: The Orlando Pirates are a professional football team that competes in the Indoor Football League. Going into our 9th year as an organization, the Orlando Pirates have made multiple title game appearances and won the IFL Championship in 2021. The Orlando Pirates play during the spring/summer and are looking to add Graphic Design Interns in our quest for another championship.
Position Overview:
The Graphic Design Intern will play an integral role in supporting the creative and visual needs of the Orlando Pirates. This position provides hands-on experience in professional football by assisting with the development of graphic design assets across print, digital, social media, and game day platforms. The ideal candidate is creative, detail-oriented, eager to learn, and passionate about pursuing a career in sports graphic design. Interns will work closely with the creative and marketing teams to develop engaging visual content that strengthens the Orlando Pirates brand and supports the team's football operations, fan engagement, and community initiatives.
This internship offers valuable exposure to the creative side of the professional football organization and provides practical experience designing content for a fast-paced, game-driven environment. The intern will have opportunities to support the team's game day creative needs, social media campaigns, promotional materials, digital content, and other visual assets throughout the season. Candidates should be prepared to work collaboratively, manage multiple projects and deadlines, and adapt their creative work to support the organization both on and off the field.
Responsibilities:
  • Create visual graphics for print, digital, social media, stadium boards, and other platforms.
  • Design game-day content including player graphics, hype graphics, score updates, promotional materials, and themed-night branding.
  • Support social media and digital marketing efforts through creative content development and execution.
  • Assist with game-day and event creative needs, including capturing and organizing creative assets.
  • Contribute to signage surveys, installations, and other on-site creative needs for games and events.
  • Edit, resize, and adapt graphics for multiple platforms, formats, and marketing applications.
  • Maintain brand consistency across all creative materials and campaigns.
  • Assist with photo library organization and select photography for marketing and promotional needs.
  • Develop technical design skills, including file setup, print production, and communication with print vendors to ensure projects meet quality standards and deadlines.

Skills and Qualifications:
  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, Digital Media, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be willing and able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by the team schedule.
  • Maintain a professional and positive representation of the organization when interacting with players, coaches, sponsors, and fans.
  • Knowledge and basic experience with Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator.
  • Please provide a portfolio or links to your work

We are an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, age, disability, gender identity, marital or veteran status, or any other protected class
