Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit
The Department of Media Studies in the College of Arts and Sciences focuses on the creative production and critical consumption of a range of moving-image media. The faculty is composed of award-winning artists, scholars, and practitioners. The Department is housed in the Brown Building and in the Carmichael Center. Originally constructed to serve the University of North Carolina public broadcasting system, the Carmichael Center now holds the Department's soundstage, screening room, production classrooms, editing lab, audio recording studio, and location production equipment inventory. The Department enhances the curriculum with opportunities to learn outside of the traditional classroom setting and participate in a variety of media productions. These include the Department's internship program, registered student organizations for film production, and its client-based production clinic.
Position Summary
The Department of Media Studies at UNC Greensboro invites applications for a Tenure-TrackAssistant Professor of Media Production with an emphasis on Virtual Production and Emerging Media to begin August 1, 2027. This position focuses on Media Production with a specific emphasis on Emerging Media technologies. In addition to filmmaking, this position includes other media production with emerging media technologies. The successful candidate will have an established record in creative work and/or scholarship and have experience in Virtual Production and/or the integration of Cinematic AI applications within the curriculum. The successful candidate should be able to teach undergraduate courses related to media production. Courses will include Introduction to Media Production and screenwriting at the fundamental level, as well as upper-level courses (e.g., cinematography, directing, editing, lighting, sound, producing). The successful candidate will be expected to engage in teaching, professional growth and development activity (e.g., research/scholarship, creative activity, and/or professional practice), and service at the Department, College, and/or University levels.
Minimum Qualifications
- Candidates must hold or anticipate a Ph.D./MFA in Media Production or a related discipline by August 1, 2027.
- Strong evidence of creative work and/or scholarship.
- College teaching experience.
- Demonstrable ability to teach undergraduate courses in emerging media production.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong commitment to the collaborative process within our department, as well as with other academic programs and/or the community.
- Expertise with Adobe Creative Cloud (e.g., After Effects, Audition, Premiere) along with other related software (e.g., DaVinci Resolve).
- Additional skills courses not listed above, such as Unreal Engine, Pro Tools, Firefly (or similar), Touch Designer, coding, video mapping, immersive or interactive media, writing for immersive media or games, etc.
