Sleep Medicine Physician Assistant
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Independently provides initial and follow-up evaluation and management for patients with the full spectrum of sleep disorders via in-person and clinical video telemedicine (including consulting with sleep physicians for complex sleep questions as appropriate).
- Serves as the point of contact for Neurology Sleep consult review/screening/triage.
- Provides sleep medicine education and counseling to patients/sleep employees/other VA staff.
- Provides clinical sleep medicine support to Neurology Sleep employees.
- Assists in responding to sleep related patient phone calls/messages/and in-person walk-in visits.
- Orders/reviews lab work related to sleep medicine evaluations as indicated.
- Orders polysomnographic studies (Home and Sleep Laboratory studies) as indicated.
- Prescribes and refills any medication listed on the VA hospital formulary except for Schedule II, III, IV, V Narcotics, chemotherapeutic agents and anesthetics per Birmingham VA guidelines.
- Consults other non-Sleep services as indicated for the health of the patient.
- Participates in Sleep quality improvement projects.
- Mentors Sleep nursing staff.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Subject to change based on agency needs.
Telework: Available; Ad-hoc only after completing initial training.

Salary Range: Physician Assistant-I (PA-I): $120,966 - $160,874 Physician Assistant-II (PA-II): $131,852 - $175,357 Physician Assistant-III (PA-III): $143,719 - $191,140
