Job description

Job Overview

The VDC (Virtual Design and Construction) Specialist plays a critical role in preconstruction and construction. The specialist acts as a conduit between stakeholder teams, facilitates the use of AEC 2D drafting and 3D modeling software, and creates coordinated, construction‑ready architectural and engineering models. Strong communication, attention to detail, and organizational skills are essential.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in implementing the VDC program and execute the Building Information Modeling (BIM) plan on new projects.
  • Resolve BIM‑related issues in contract documents and ensure compliance with building codes and standards.
  • Set up projects in systems such as Revit, BIM360, and Navisworks; detect clashes; and maintain updated RFI/observations.
  • Conduct weekly reviews with project teams, track action items, and deliver coordinated federated models for meetings.
  • Collaborate with design teams, trade partners, and subcontractors to deliver 3D models within scheduled timeframes, resolve design conflicts, and address RFI’s before 100% construction documents.
  • Lead weekly BIM coordination and design coordination meetings, prepare documents, maintain meeting minutes, and track action items.
  • Define and manage Level of Detail (LOD) requirements throughout design progression.
  • Support the transition from design to construction coordination, including preparing subcontractor onboarding, reviewing BIM execution plans with in‑house BIM teams, and coordinating schedules.
  • Prepare models for field operations, coordinate and resolve field issues, and update models with design and field changes during construction.
  • Provide VDC support to field teams, assist with technology use, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives for the VDC group.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, construction technology, information technology, or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of hands‑on experience in construction technologies within the AEC industry, implementing VDC on large capital projects.
  • Proficiency in Revit, Navisworks, SketchUp, and Microsoft Office; working knowledge of Bluebeam, Procore, and Oracle Primavera Cloud.
  • Advanced understanding of design, construction documents, tools, platforms, and workflows.
  • Knowledge of laser scanners, 3D capture, and drones is a plus.
  • Strong technology aptitude, ability to identify and improve processes, and experience managing the entire technology lifecycle.
  • Excellent organizational skills, high attention to detail, ability to prioritize and meet deadlines, and a proactive, collaborative attitude.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of interacting with vendors, stakeholders, and team members professionally.
  • Integrity, respect, and a passion for construction and field work.
  • Willingness to travel to other offices and project sites on a limited basis.
