Job Title: High School Physical Education/Health Teacher
Department: High School
Start Date: August 13, 2026
Reports to: High School Principal
Salary Range: Based on salary scale as agreed upon between GCVS and AFT Massachusetts, AFL-CIO GCVS Professional Staff. $57,443.30 to $93,722.31
Position Summary:
The High School PE/Health Teacher is responsible for providing high-quality instruction to students with diverse learning needs in the GCVS virtual environment. This role focuses on fostering an inclusive virtual classroom culture, and ensuring that all students have equitable access to the high school PE/Health curriculum. The teacher works collaboratively with all GCVS staff, related service providers, and families to support student growth, wellness, and academic achievement.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Deliver GCVS curriculum through virtual instruction aligned with Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.
  • Teach PE/Health at the high school level under the direction of the Principal.
  • Lead students through successful course completion.
  • Foster a virtual environment conducive to learning.
  • Prioritize student needs so that each child may reach their fullest potential.
  • Partner with parents and colleagues to manage course goals, curriculum, and materials that best benefit the individual needs of each student.
  • Engage and nurture student learning and student relationships.
  • Utilize data-driven instruction to adjust teaching strategies based on individual student performance and assessments.
  • Promote a sense of belonging and community using district-approved platforms.
  • Proactively engage students who may face barriers to participation in a remote setting.
  • Collaborate with appropriate GCVS staff to co-teach and support students in inclusive settings.
  • Maintain frequent and professional communication with parents/guardians regarding student milestones and challenges.
  • Participate in the Massachusetts Educator Evaluation Framework and engage in ongoing professional development.

Qualifications:
  • Valid Massachusetts DESE license in PE (PE 5-12) with SEI Endorsement.
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience: 3-5 years of teaching experience preferred, with specific experience in secondary health education.
  • Technical Proficiency: Ability to quickly learn and navigate virtual platforms (e.g., Schoology, eSped, PowerSchool, Google Suite, various teaching tools, etc.).
  • Physical/Travel: Ability to operate a computer for lengthy periods.

Location Preference:
Applicants residing in the Massachusetts area are strongly preferred, with the ability to travel to locations across the state and attend GCVS events as needed.
