What You'll Do
Position Summary
As a fitness instructor at Suvida Healthcare, you will be an essential member of our integrated healthcare team, responsible for leading our "¡A Movernos!" fitness and wellness classes as well as our "Matter of Balance" fall prevention classes. Our "¡A Movernos!" program is designed to help our members maintain and improve their strength, balance, and flexibility through engaging and dynamic fitness classes. Our "Matter of Balance" program helps members reduce their risk of falls by addressing the fear of falling and increasing physical activity levels. We are seeking a passionate and experienced Fitness Instructor to lead these classes and provide a positive and safe environment for our participants.
Responsibilities
  • Essential responsibilities consist of but are not all inclusive:
  • Lead the "¡A Movernos!" fitness class, focusing on strength, balance, and flexibility. Classes are 1 hour long and held 1-2 times per week, depending on the center's schedule and patient demand.
  • Follow fitness class protocols and class outlines, ensuring one class is strength-focused and the other is balance-focused.
  • Complete Suvida Healthcare's Matter of Balance certification through two virtual training sessions with required active participation.
  • Co-lead the "Matter of Balance" class alongside our Hospitality and Events Coordinator. Classes are 2 hours long, plus prep and breakdown time, and are conducted as 9-week sessions, offered 2-3 times per center each calendar year.
  • Prepare Matter of Balance lesson plans using the provided coach handbook.
  • Plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate fitness routines tailored to older adults.
  • Create a safe, supportive, and fun atmosphere for participants of all fitness levels.
  • Modify exercises as needed to accommodate varying abilities, ensuring all participants feel included and supported.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and encourage a positive and motivating class experience.
  • Continuously assess and adjust exercises to ensure participant safety and progress.
  • Foster a welcoming and inclusive community for older adults to thrive in their fitness journey.
  • Build strong relationships with participants and offer personalized advice when appropriate.
  • Ensure all equipment is properly maintained and available for class use.

What You'll bring - Education Requirements
  • Certification in fitness instruction (e.g., ACE, AFAA, or similar)
  • CPR/AED certification or willingness to obtain

What You'll bring - Experience Requirements
  • 3+ years of experience as a fitness instructor
  • Experience working with geriatric populations required
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) required
  • Strong knowledge of exercises that promote balance, strength, and flexibility
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain exercises clearly and effectively
  • Ability to modify exercises to accommodate a wide range of fitness levels and abilities
  • Enthusiasm, patience, and a commitment to helping others improve their health and wellness.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the instructor must be able to demonstrate physical activities, including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and lifting light to moderate weights (up to 30 lbs). Classes require frequent movement, such as stretching, balance exercises, and strength training. The instructor should have the ability to safely assist participants with modifications as needed. Additionally, the role requires assisting with moving chairs, bands, and weight racks for class setup and breakdown.
