Education Requirements

The ideal candidate will be adept at clearly explaining concepts and techniques to students of varying ages, backgrounds, and experience levels. A strong dedication to teaching and a sincere interest in supporting lifelong learning for individual students are essential. Excellent communication skills, responsiveness to emails, openness to new ideas, initiative, and a willingness to promote and market personal classes are required. The ability to teach multiple disciplines is advantageous. Experience teaching online is necessary, and proficiency with virtual meeting applications is mandatory. Candidates must have a modern computer equipped with a microphone and camera for live online instruction, be capable of recording lectures on video, and create course materials using Blackboard. If not already familiar with Blackboard, applicants should be willing to participate in training sessions. Competency with email, social media platforms, text messaging, screen sharing, and content sharing is also required.
Responsibilities
The Harper College Community Music and Arts Center is seeking a part-time writing instructor to teach group classes for adults and children, starting in January 2026. Employment for this role depends on class enrollment and may include evening and weekend hours.
The primary responsibilities of this position include teaching weekly non-credit classes and supporting community education programs. The instructor will collaborate with colleagues to enhance instructional quality and student engagement, while maintaining a consistent teaching schedule throughout the academic year. Duties include developing lesson plans, administering student assessments, and integrating technology into the teaching and learning process. The role also involves designing and delivering courses in multiple formats, including In-Person, Self-Paced, Online Live, and Hybrid modalities. Additionally, the instructor will participate in departmental and faculty meetings, training sessions, and contribute to program marketing and outreach initiatives, engaging with social media platforms to promote courses and enhance program visibility.
