Akamai Engineer
Location: Wayne, Pennsylvania (Hybrid)
Role Overview
An experienced Akamai Engineer is sought to design, automate, and support the edge services that facilitate the secure and reliable delivery of internet-facing applications. This role involves hands-on operation and maintenance of the Akamai platform, with a focus on platform support, customer intake, delivery, and contributing to automation efforts. The position requires collaboration across teams to improve processes and ensure alignment with operational goals.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide hands-on operation within the Akamai platform, including supporting and maintaining the implemented system.
  • Configure and manage Akamai services, including edge properties, routing, and security controls.
  • Contribute to automation efforts by scripting in Python, Golang, or similar tools; Terraform is currently in use.
  • Support the onboarding of applications to the Akamai platform and ensure adherence to standards.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues impacting application performance, availability, or security.
  • Develop and maintain automation solutions for Akamai platform provisioning and configuration.
  • Integrate Akamai capabilities into CI/CD pipelines using APIs and infrastructure-as-code practices.
  • Collaborate with application, network, and security teams to deliver Akamai-based solutions.
Required Qualifications
Education: A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience is required.
Experience: This role requires 3-5+ years of experience in network engineering, DevOps, or platform engineering. Hands-on experience with CDN, edge, or application delivery platforms is necessary, with prior exposure to Akamai being a requirement.
Technical Skills:
  • Experience with scripting or programming, such as Python or Terraform.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, such as GitHub Actions or Jenkins.
  • Experience with API-based automation.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Akamai Property Manager, Edge DNS, or security services (WAF, DDoS, Bot Management).
  • Familiarity with policy-driven automation, such as validation checks and guardrails.
  • Knowledge of DNS and certificate lifecycle management.
  • Familiarity with Agile delivery models and enterprise change management processes.
Work Environment
The role follows a hybrid work model, with in-office attendance expected on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. There is an emphasis on pair development and support for knowledge sharing within the team. Additional office locations for this role include Plano, TX; Charlotte, NC; and Scottsdale, AZ.
