Under the supervision of the physician-according to established practice guidelines and utilizing evidence-based clinical practice standards-provides inpatient management, consultation, and co-management of medical and surgical patients.

Responsibilities
Essential Functions
• Manages patients using the highest degree of independence with minimal physician supervision in a highly specialized area across the continuum.
• Assesses the physical and psychosocial status of patients by means of interview, health history, physical examination, and diagnostic studies, and recognizes deviations from the normal. From this, develops a diagnosis, and works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to formulate and implement the treatment plan.
• Performs complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, as credentialed, in diagnosing medical and surgical problems and prescribing necessary treatment and services for quality patient care.
• Assists in teaching students, residents, and interns in complex techniques and procedures.
• Implements appropriate management based on laboratory results, physical assessment, routine diagnostic and follow-up studies, therapeutic measures, admission and discharge care in accordance with evidence based medicine. .
• Initiates appropriate actions to facilitate the implementation of therapeutic plans that are consistent with the continuing healthcare needs of patients.
• Writes or dictates patient progress notes, discharge summaries, and clinical resumes that are concise throughout.
• Prescribes medication.
• Performs patient education and maintains provision of preventive health services.
• Conducts or participates in multidisciplinary rounds.
• Works with supervising physician to determine and place appropriate specialty consultations.
• Participates in quality initiatives to ensure consistent attainment of key quality indicators.
• Performs advanced cardiac life support. In medical emergencies, will act on behalf of the supervising medical staff member to maintain life support until a licensed physician arrives to manage the patient.
• Triages patients.
• Shares clinical expertise with professional and supportive personnel, and collaborates with other healthcare disciplines to ensure continuity and quality of care.
Qualifications
Experience
  • Minimum of three (3) years of nurse practitioner or physician assistant experience, with 2 years in a specialty *
  • Experienced working autonomously as a provider *

Education/Training
Master's degree in nursing or Graduate of an accredited physician assistant program.
Licensure/Certification
ARNP license in the state of Florida; specialty certification is required for certain departments.
Maintains current CPR certification, ACLS certification, and others as required by department.

• Current licensure in State of Florida renewed every two years to include prescriptive authority.
• Maintains NCCPA (National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants).
• Maintains BLS and ACLS certifications, and others as required by department.
