Job description

About Vintage.com
At Vintage.com, we're building the most trusted platform for pre-loved items. We help people give valuable things a new life, making the experience simple, transparent and rewarding.
We bring together specialist knowledge, thoughtful technology and genuine care for our customers. By helping more items stay in circulation, we create value for people and make a positive impact at the same time.
About the Team
Join our Gold Team, where we specialise in processing gold, fine jewellery, and high-value jewellery for auction and trade sales. Handling valuable stock requires a high level of collaboration, with tasks shared among team members to achieve ambitious departmental goals. With deep expertise in antique, vintage, and fine jewellery, our team thrives on daily discoveries and continuous learning. Each piece tells a story, and you'll have the chance to unlock and preserve that history. Here you will be working in collaboration with multiple departments in a hive of activity, handling stock and sending it on its journey from valuation to the hammer fall at auction.
Why the role exists

The Jewellery Product Assessor is essential to unlocking the true value of items sent in by customers. By combining technical testing, fine jewellery expertise, and precise stock handling, this role ensures every precious metal and gemstone is accurately identified, safely processed, and effectively presented for trade and auction. Your work directly drives revenue for the business while maintaining the highest security and quality standards.
What success looks like
  • Identify and catalogue fine, antique, and collectible jewellery with consistently high accuracy.
  • Master metal purity testing (including XRF) to correctly distinguish carats and verify precious metals.
  • Execute clean jewellery breakdown techniques, maximising gold scrap yield and preserving gemstones.
  • Achieve departmental KPIs by preparing accurate, well-described, and attractive fine jewellery lots for auction.
  • Maintain meticulous records of figures, stock weights, and tracking data in Excel.
  • Uphold 100% compliance with strict security protocols during stock handling, weighing, and bagging.

Operational Excellence
  • Assess and catalogue high-value jewellery, identifying fine, antique, and collectible pieces with accuracy.
  • Sort and break down jewellery into solid gold scrap, carefully removing gemstones and non-gold components.
  • Identify metal purity and distinguish between carats using visual inspection and XRF testing.
  • Prepare and weigh solid gold for secure storage, adhering strictly to security protocols.
  • Create curated lots of fine jewellery to meet KPIs, producing detailed and accurate descriptions using internal tools.
Quality-check solid gold and items for accuracy and compliance with all security standards.

Continuous Improvement
  • Master new skills by developing proficiency in XRF testing and identifying metal purity.
  • Learn jewellery breakdown techniques for carefully removing gemstones.
  • Manage workload independently, prioritising tasks efficiently.
  • Collaborate on departmental KPIs and suggest innovative enhancements.
  • Actively contribute to record-keeping and process optimisation related to fine jewellery and auction preparation.
Compliance
  • Record weights, figures, and stock information meticulously using Excel-based tracking systems.
  • Assist in quality-checking solid gold for secure bagging.

Essential
  • Experience in retail jewellery settings (e.g. high-street jewellers), bench jewellers, or involvement in fine jewellery and auction processes.
  • Strong knowledge and familiarity with fine jewellery, including hallmarks, carats, and metal purity.
  • Attention to detail with the ability to handle valuable items with precision and care.
  • Ability to work with figures, weights, and Excel-based tracking systems.
Helpful
  • Familiarity with vintage and antique jewellery.
  • Experience with security protocols for high-value stock.
