Description
Part-Time Choir Director, Saint Vincent College Singers
Position Type: Part-Time
Reports To: Music Department Chair
Position Summary
The Choir Director is responsible for developing, rehearsing, and conducting the Saint Vincent College choir. This director will create engaging musical experiences that enhance the college's cultural life while providing opportunities for student musicians to grow artistically. The director will be a member of the Music & Performing Arts Department and will work with the department and various offices to present concerts and special musical performances throughout the academic year.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Conduct choir rehearsals with professionalism and musicality, building an ensemble that demonstrates technical excellence and collaborative spirit
  • Plan and conduct two major choir concerts per academic year-one in the fall and one in the spring-selecting appropriate repertoire that balances classical works, and contemporary compositions
  • Prepare the choir to sing at significant college events including convocations, commencements, special services, and community gatherings
  • Select musical repertoire appropriate for the skill level of the choir while maintaining high artistic standards
  • Work with Music & Performing Arts Department to recruit singers to build and maintain a strong choral ensemble
  • Collaborate with music faculty and Academic Affairs to integrate choir performances into the college's academic and community calendar
  • Secure performance venues, manage logistics for concerts and special events, and coordinate technical requirements
  • Maintain rehearsal materials, purchase sheet music as needed, and manage the choir's music library
  • Provide individual musical feedback to singers and foster a supportive, inclusive choir environment
  • Communicate regularly with the Music Department Chair regarding choir activities, student progress, and program developments
