What are Vikings and what did they do?

Vikings were seafaring people from Scandinavia (modern-day Norway, Sweden, and Denmark) who lived during the late eighth to early eleventh centuries. They are best known for their raids, exploration, and trading throughout Europe, Asia, and even North America. Vikings were skilled shipbuilders and navigators, and they established settlements and trading routes far from their homelands. In addition to being warriors, many Vikings were also farmers, craftsmen, and merchants. Their culture had a significant impact on the regions they visited, influencing language, law, and art.
