What is a video production internship?

Video Production Internships are temporary positions, often held by students or recent graduates, that provide hands-on experience in creating, editing, and producing video content. Interns typically assist with various stages of video production, including pre-production planning, operating cameras, editing footage, and managing equipment. These internships offer valuable exposure to industry-standard tools and workflows, and can help individuals build a portfolio and develop professional connections. They are often found at media companies, advertising agencies, film studios, or in-house corporate teams. Successful completion can lead to more advanced roles in video production.

To thrive as a Video Production Intern, you need a basic understanding of video editing, filming techniques, and storytelling, often supported by coursework or experience in film, media, or communications. Familiarity with editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or DaVinci Resolve is commonly required. Strong communication, teamwork, and a willingness to take direction help interns excel in collaborative production environments. These skills and qualities are essential for creating high-quality content and contributing effectively to production teams.

What types of projects and responsibilities can I expect as a video production intern?

As a Video Production Intern, you can expect to be involved in a variety of tasks ranging from assisting with filming on set, setting up equipment, and managing lighting and audio, to post-production activities like editing footage, adding effects, and organizing digital assets. Interns often collaborate closely with producers, editors, and other team members, providing hands-on support throughout the video creation process.
