Job description


The multimedia communications specialist in the College of Communication and Information (CCI) will have artistic freedom to shape the college's video presence and lead end-to-end production-from storyboarding and scripting to shooting, editing, captioning, and final delivery-creating compelling content for the web, social media, events, and leadership presentations. This position will independently produce impactful photography, support print and digital design needs, and help ensure every visual touchpoint is polished, consistent, and on brand. Working closely with campus partners and assigned subunit in the college, the specialist will play a big role in campaign planning, creative brainstorming, and major college initiatives-building a modern, cohesive visual identity that elevates CCI's reach and reputation.
Responsibilities
Videography, Digital Asset Management, & Photography
  • Set strategy for video production needs to enhance the digital presence of the college; write, review, and approve all scripts, select soundbites, and review/approve edits for video production.
  • Arrange and direct photo shoots.
  • Lead the creation of storyboards and scripts for video production.
  • Manage and produce high quality and impactful video projects for internal and external use (presentations, website, social media and events).
  • Lead and manage post-production work including editing captioning and branding.
  • Produce compelling photography to enhance written content, website and social media to extend visual brand identity.
  • Attend college events/meetings to capture images/videos for marketing use.
  • Manage digital video/photo assets to support video production and content creation, including stories, web and social media.
  • Enhance photographs and digital imagery to create high visual impact as well as produce artistic and infographic elements.
  • Maintain video/photography production equipment and associated software inventory, including providing budget estimates for higher-level equipment purchases, repairs, or maintenance needs; performing preventative maintenance on equipment; and maintaining video file records.

Graphic Design
  • Promote the college to both internal and external audiences through print and digital graphic design.
  • As directed by the assistant director, collaborate with the CCI graphic designer in developing concepts and appropriate communication vehicles for the college. These projects may range from small-scale items such as posters or invitations to larger scale, high-profile, complex projects like magazines, or full communication campaigns involving multiple designed pieces delivered across a full suite of media including print, electronic, and video.
  • Support the creation of digital design elements for digital communication channels and social media.
  • Create templates for college in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and other software programs such as Adobe InDesign, while working within existing brand guidelines.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure design consistency across various media, especially during campaigns.
  • Collaborate with printers and promotional item vendors to package pieces for print, obtain estimates for printing items, and liaise with printers and vendors regarding deadlines and delivery of printed items, as needed.
  • Keep apprised of design trends and methodologies.
  • Maintain brand integrity across all platforms and in all materials, both print and digital.

Strategic Alignment and Brand Voice
  • Serve as primary liaison to assigned school or unit within CCI for triaging all communications and marketing needs of the unit.
  • Support effective, productive relationships with campus colleagues.
  • Collaborate and partner closely with team members and contribute to broad projects/initiatives.
  • Support strategic planning of communication and marketing campaigns.
  • Contribute to creative brainstorming and content planning.
  • Ensure all content is on-brand, consistent in terms of style, quality, and tone of voice, optimized for search, and adapted for multiple platforms.
  • Contribute to the development of the office's creative culture and uphold the quality standards.
  • Conceptualize and set standards for the public representation of the college.
  • Assist leadership for large scale programs and events for the college.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's in film/video production, graphic design, marketing, communications, or related field
  • Minimum of two-three years of professional experience in videography, graphic design, communications, marketing, or public relations setting.
  • Knowledge of A/V and lighting equipment functionality and set-up
  • Skill in video production, filming, and editing multimedia content
  • Knowledge of shooting video in various settings
  • Knowledge of editing video/audio recordings and adjusting them in post-production
  • Ability to follow technical requirements, accessibility guidelines, and best practices for web and social multimedia content
  • Skill operating computers, cameras, and photography/video recording equipment
  • Skill in Adobe Creative Cloud (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Lightroom, Photoshop, etc.)
  • Skill in WordPress and social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter/X, Instagram)
  • Skills in photo editing, illustration, vector image manipulation, and motion graphics
  • Skill in audio editing for video and audio-only projects (interviews, podcasts)
  • Ability to work within brand standards
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, meet tight deadlines, work independently, and communicate effectively as a team member
  • Skill in print design and layout for marketing collateral (flyers, posters, trade-show materials, multipage brochures/catalogs)
  • Ability to exercise sound discretionary judgment and consult with cross-functional teams to coordinate projects
  • Skill in artistic and graphic design with strong aesthetic judgment (typography, photography, interactive design)

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Minimum of three-five years of experience in videography, graphic design, communications, marketing, or public relations settings. Experience with multimedia communications at an institution of higher education, government agency, or company is preferred.

  • Advanced knowledge of editing video and audio recordings and adjusting them in post-production
  • Ability to follow technical requirements, accessibility guidelines and best practices in the creation of multimedia content for websites and social media
  • Excellent skills operating computer, photography and video equipment including cameras and recording devices

Work Location: On site in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Compensation and Benefits: The anticipated starting salary for this position is $54,000 to $56,000 depending on the selected candidate's experience, qualifications, and suitability.
