Job description

Business Insider is looking for a Managing Producer to lead our Vertical Video team and help shape the future of short-form strategy across our site and social platforms.
This is a leadership role for an experienced editorial producer who thrives in a fast-paced newsroom, has exceptional editorial judgment, and is passionate about crafting compelling video journalism. You'll oversee day-to-day operations while partnering across the newsroom to transform Business Insider's reporting into engaging short-form storytelling.
The Vertical Video team produces explainers, breaking news coverage, and original hosted series spanning business, technology, innovation, and global markets. As Managing Producer, you'll serve as the connective thread between video editors and producers, video leadership, and reporters and editors across the newsroom.
Reporting to our Deputy Executive Producer, you'll lead a team of producers, set editorial priorities, and help define the long-term strategy for Business Insider's vertical video operation. You'll combine strong people management with sharp editorial instincts, using audience insights and performance data to evolve our storytelling, scale successful franchises, and identify new opportunities across emerging platforms and formats.
This is a hybrid position based in New York, with an in-office expectation of three days per week.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of vertical video producers, fostering a collaborative, high-performing newsroom culture.
  • Oversee daily vertical video coverage, managing workflows, assigning stories, and setting publishing priorities.
  • Partner with reporters and editors across the newsroom to translate original reporting into compelling short-form video.
  • Coach reporters, producers, and hosts on vertical-native storytelling, scripting, and on-camera presentation.
  • Review edits, headlines, and captions to ensure editorial accuracy, quality, and adherence to Business Insider's journalistic standards.
  • Analyze audience and platform performance data to refine editorial priorities and publishing strategies, and relay findings to leadership.
  • Develop and scale repeatable vertical video franchises that deepen audience engagement and grow Business Insider's presence across social platforms.
  • Help identify emerging storytelling tools, production techniques, and platform opportunities that keep Business Insider at the forefront of digital video journalism.
  • Lead experimentation with AI-powered production tools and workflows, identifying opportunities to responsibly accelerate video creation, streamline operations, and expand storytelling capabilities.

Desired Skills & Experience:
  • Significant experience producing and managing short-form video in a digital news or media organization.
  • Demonstrated experience managing, mentoring, and developing editorial teams.
  • Deep understanding of vertical video storytelling and major social media platforms.
  • Excellent editorial judgment and a commitment to the highest journalistic standards.
  • Strong understanding of audience development and using performance data to inform editorial decisions.
  • Experience evaluating and implementing AI-powered workflows that improve efficiency, scale content production, or enhance creative storytelling in a newsroom or digital media environment.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative, solutions-oriented approach to leadership.
  • A passion for innovation in digital storytelling, including emerging AI tools, production workflows, and new content formats.
