Cardiac Monitor Technician โ€“ Medical/Surgical Unitย 

Position Summaryย 

Stillwater Medical Center isย seekingย a detail-oriented and highly attentiveย Cardiac Monitor Technicianย to join our Medical/Surgical team. This role is essential in supporting patient safety through continuousย cardiac monitoring, early identification of clinical changes, andย timelyย communication with nursing staff.ย 

The Cardiac Monitor Technician plays a critical role in ensuring high-quality patient care byย maintainingย vigilance, accuracy, and collaboration in a fast-paced acute care environment.ย 

Key Responsibilitiesย 

  • Provide continuous surveillance of cardiac telemetry and/or video monitoring systemsย ย 
  • Promptly recognize and report rhythm changes or patient condition concerns to the Charge Nurse or RNย ย 
  • Initiate andย discontinueย telemetry monitoring per physician ordersย ย 
  • Prepare, manage, and ensure proper application of telemetry equipmentย ย 
  • Accurately document cardiac rhythms, dysrhythmia strips, and patient monitoring data in the EMRย ย 
  • Maintain telemetry logs, records, and monitoring documentationย ย 
  • Ensure monitoring equipment functionality; collaborate with Biomed and IT as neededย ย 
  • Support patient safety throughย timelyย communication and escalation of concernsย ย 
  • Assistย in training and preceptingย new staffย as neededย ย 
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to ensure continuity of careย ย

  • Reports directly to the Charge Nurse and Clinical Manager/Directorย ย 
  • Functions within a collaborative, team-based care modelย ย 
  • Participates in unit-basedย self-schedulingย and on-call rotations as neededย ย 
  • Completes all required competencies and ongoing educationย ย

Additional Details:

  • "As needed" varied positoin. Shifts will vary, could be 12 hours at a time, and will include some weekends.
  • 6 months monitor tech experienceย is requiredย since this is a PRN position.ย 
  • Ability to cross train to fill unit secretary shifts as needed

JOB SUMMARY:
ย 
Responsible for the constant surveillance of cardiac/video monitors and appropriately reports changes to the Charge Nurse.
ย 
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum age of 18-years/high-school graduate.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to function in stressful situations.
  • Preferably prior experience in cardiac monitoring of at least one year.
  • Basic computer literacy.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Work is sedentary in nature, with some standing and walking.
  • Demonstrates adequate vision, or correctable with glasses, to read and write.
  • Able to hear, or correctable with hearing devices, and able to talk to converse with others in person and over the phone.
  • Able to hear, see, and feel to accurately assess and monitor patients.
  • Able to frequently lift at least 60 lbs., reach, pull, push, bend, stoop, and kneel.
  • Able to work in latex burdened environment.
