Job Summary

Surveillance Officers are responsible for monitoring the casino environment to ensure the safety and security of both patrons and staff. This involves using advanced surveillance equipment, such as cameras and monitoring systems, to detect and prevent criminal activities, cheating, or any suspicious behavior. In addition to observing live feeds, Surveillance Officers analyze video footage to gather evidence and report incidents, contributing to a safe and enjoyable atmosphere within the casino. Their investigative work often requires collaboration with law enforcement and adherence to regulatory guidelines, making critical thinking, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills essential attributes for success in this field.

How You Will Create the Extraordinary
  • Clandestine observation of all gaming and money handling activities.
  • Analyze all gaming and money handling for undesirable play, fraud, theft, and deception.
  • Operate electronic surveillance equipment (CCTV) to monitor casino activities.
  • Operate surveillance equipment such as CCTV systems, video printers, video switchers and various computerized equipment.
  • Prepare written reports and logs.
  • Present evaluations of any observed illegal activity to the proper departments and make recommendations.
  • Follow policies to ensure safety and asset protection, and have knowledge of all slot/game procedures and Title 31.
  • Act as a role model to other employees and present oneself as a credit to Harrah’s, encouraging others to do the same.
  • Adhere to all regulatory, company and department policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of games and casino rules, procedures and administration.
  • Have knowledge of games cheating methods and related illegal activities.
  • Complete all other duties as assigned.
What You Will Need
  • 21 years of age or older required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Be able to respond calmly in crisis and stressful situations.
  • Be flexible in schedule to include evenings, holidays, and weekends.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent mathematical and reading skills.
  • Have or acquire board knowledge of the various casino games offered, and cheating techniques used to compromise these games and detect when cheating or any unusual, irregular or illegal activities are present.
  • Understand the various department policies and procedures and recognize when a violation has occurred.
  • Operate the following equipment: monitors, switches, computers, controllers, and cameras.
  • Work in and support a team-oriented environment.
  • Perform routine tasks accurately and without error.
  • Show initiative to work without direct supervision.
  • Cannot have any immediate family members employed at Harrah’s Joliet Casino & Hotel that surveillance has auditory control over.
  • Internal candidates must meet Harrah’s Joliet transfer eligibility requirements.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Lifts up to a maximum of 10 lbs. and/or carries objects weighing up to 10 lbs.
  • Position requires 5% standing, 90% sitting, 5% walking.
  • Requires some bending, kneeling and reaching overhead.
  • Be able to respond to touch, speech, aural and visual cues.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment involving constant internal and external customer contact.
  • Maneuver to all areas of the casino.

WORK SCHEDULE/SHIFT

  • Late Swing Shift: 2:30 pm - 11:00 pm
  • Grave Shift: 11:00 pm - 7:30 am
