BARGAINING UNIT / SALARY LEVEL: This position is classified at Level 4D, with a salary of $63,393.94 and full benefit package commensurate with the Agreement between the MCCS Trustees and the MEA Administrators Unit.  In addition, we offer a hybrid work schedule that allows for remote work one day per week, promoting flexibility and work-life balance. This is an in person, on campus position.

POSITION SUMMARY:

York County Community College (YCCC), a dynamic institution committed to transforming lives and strengthening communities through education, is seeking an innovative and collaborative Instructional Designer to join our team. This position plays a vital role in the development, design, implementation, and continuous improvement of high-quality instructional materials and learning experiences that support both credit and non-credit programs.

Working collaboratively with faculty, instructors, subject matter experts, employers, and other internal and external partners, the Instructional Designer applies evidence-based instructional design principles, educational technologies, and accessibility standards to create engaging, effective, and inclusive learning experiences. The position supports curriculum development, instructional innovation, technology integration, faculty development, and continuous improvement initiatives that promote student success, workforce readiness, and institutional excellence.

As a member of the YCCC community, the Instructional Designer will help foster a culture of innovation, inclusion, and excellence by promoting instructional best practices, supporting continuous quality improvement, and advancing the College's strategic priorities through collaborative partnerships and a shared commitment to student success.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  Include but are not limited to the following;

Instructional Design and Course Development

  • Collaborate with faculty, instructors, subject matter experts, employers, and other stakeholders to analyze learning needs and align with measurable learning outcomes.

  • Design, develop, revise, and maintain engaging instructional materials and strategies for credit and non-credit offerings across multiple instructional modalities.

  • Lead and support the ongoing development and maintenance of master courses and standardized instructional resources.

  • Incorporate evidence-based instructional strategies, authentic assessment techniques, and educational technologies into course design.

  • Apply Universal Design for Learning (UDL), accessibility standards, and inclusive teaching practices throughout the instructional design process.

  • Remain current on instructional design research, emerging technologies, accessibility requirements, and educational best practices, incorporating innovations into course design as appropriate.

Collaboration, Consultation, and Faculty/Instructor Support

  • Serve as an instructional design consultant to faculty, instructors, academic departments, workforce programs, and external partners.

  • Collaborate with instructional teams to ensure consistency, quality, and alignment across instructional offerings.

  • Participate in curriculum development, revision, and program improvement initiatives.

  • Provide individual consultations, workshops, and training that promote effective teaching, course design, educational technology, and instructional best practices.

  • Collaborate on college-wide and Maine Community College System initiatives, including master course development, microcredentials, workforce training, and other strategic instructional projects.

  • Build collaborative relationships with employers and community partners to support workforce education initiatives when appropriate.

  • Document progress regularly.

Technology Integration and Learning Systems Support

  • Evaluate, recommend, and implement instructional technologies that enhance teaching and learning.

  • Support faculty and instructors in the effective use of Brightspace, educational software, multimedia tools, and other learning technologies.

  • Assist with troubleshooting instructional technology and learning management system issues related to course delivery.

  • Collaborate with appropriate college personnel to evaluate emerging technologies and instructional tools.

  • Promote effective and innovative integration of technology into teaching across all instructional modalities.

  • Document support regularly.

Quality Assurance, Assessment, and Continuous Improvement

  • Conduct quality assurance reviews of instructional materials to ensure alignment with instructional design principles, learning outcomes, accessibility standards, and institutional expectations.

  • Evaluate instructional materials using formative and summative assessment methods and recommend improvements.

  • Assist with the collection, analysis, and interpretation of instructional design and student learning data to support continuous improvement.

  • Support institutional initiatives related to course quality, instructional effectiveness, accessibility compliance, and assessment.

  • Document instructional design processes, resources, and best practices to support consistency and organizational knowledge.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Instructional Design, Education, Educational Technology, or related field

    • 4 years experience in curriculum development and course design

    • Additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Master's degree in Instructional Design, Education, Educational Technology, or related field

    • 4 + years’ experience in curriculum design and course design in a community college setting

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES 

    • Demonstrated experience in instructional design, curriculum development, and educational technology integration.

    • Proficiency in instructional design models, principles, and best practices.

    • Knowledge of learning management systems (LMS) and other educational technologies.

    • Familiarity with multimedia authoring tools, eLearning authoring tools, and graphic design software.

    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, administrators, and other stakeholders.

    • Attention to detail and commitment to quality.

    • Experience in higher education or community college settings is preferred.
