We are looking for a highly motivated, proactive Freelance Assignment Editor with an interest in financial and political news to join our FOX Business Assignment Desk in the Washington, DC Bureau. The Freelance Assignment Editor works with a team of people to help coordinate daily news coverage, which includes adjusting crews to cover news and responding to cover a consistent flow of events at the Capitol, White House, Treasury, Federal Reserve, and other agencies based in DC.
A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with the FBN Assignment Desk in NYC and DC to help coordinate daily business & political news coverage

  • Monitoring both traditional & social media for breaking news stories, and sending out major developments network-wide

  • Identify relevant news videos and soundbites for breaking news stories

  • Booking crews for daily reporter and guest coverage

  • Draft and distribute planning information to field, show, and network personnel

  • Coordinate directly with show producers, field producers, photographers, and FOX News Assignment Desk to accommodate requests for reporters

  • Assist in tracking and logging of DC news events with an emphasis on guiding employees to flag and highlight news developments

  • Reach out to agencies, government departments, and FOX personnel to gather and confirm information


WHAT YOU WILL NEED

  • A Bachelor's degree in journalism or a related field of study preferred, or equivalent experience

  • Strong editorial judgment and interest in business news

  • Familiarity with various DC government agencies

  • Ability to identify where to get the latest financial data & editorial information

  • Knowledge of and experience covering national breaking news stories and coordination of field teams

  • Attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multitask, and prioritize daily, especially in breaking news situations

  • Willingness to work late shifts, early mornings, and weekends, as needed
