About the Job
 

Position Description:

Working in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment, this social media manager develops engaging, on-brand social media campaigns for the University of Minnesota (UMN) College of Continuing and Professional Studies (CCAPS) and our community of prospects, learners, alumni, staff/faculty, advisory boards, and workforce partners. Reports to the Director of Content Marketing.

Monday-Friday: 8:00am-5:00pm. This is primarily a remote position, however the candidate will need to come into the office at the University of Minnesota periodically for meetings and events, when needed.

Visa Language: Please note, this position is not eligible for H-1B or Green Card sponsorship. This position does not offer a STEM OPT training program.

Major Responsibilities: 

Social Media Strategy and Analysis (20%)

  • Based on CCAPS and UMN brand and goals, develop strategies to grow CCAPS followers, impressions, and engagement on social media.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and manage CCAPS social media interns/student ambassadors, when applicable.
  • Set annual goals per platform. Track social KPIs, provide context (changes over time, comparison to industry standards, etc.) and share with stakeholders. Use data/insight to adjust approach as necessary.
  • Nurture social media collaborations within the University and with external partners. 
  • Monitor emerging social media platforms. Assess their value for engaging CCAPS audiences and recommend new platform adoption as appropriate.

Social Media Management (80%)

  • Partner with marketing managers, content managers, alumni relations managers, program staff and AI tools to ideate and develop a content plan.
  • Create engaging/accessible social content. Take/edit photos and video (using tools such as CapCut, Descript, or Canva). Write copy.
  • Schedule and tag posts in Sprout Social. Ensure posts are optimized for discoverability.
  • Engage with accounts we follow and commenters on our posts.
  • Recommend and schedule boosted posts as needed. Track expenses in project management system.
  • Champion social posting and engagement among college faculty/staff. Prompt and train as needed.
  • Network with other UMN and/or higher education social media managers to learn/share best practices and metrics.
  • Edit video/audio podcasts and convert into social media assets.
  • Create and manage LinkedIn newsletters.
  • Monitor and update about us sections of social accounts.
  • Manage CCAPS MEM YouTube account (create or update intro videos, implement SEO/AIO/GEO strategies, audit playlists, ensure accessibility, etc.)
  • Manage access to CCAPS social accounts and other social administration work.
Qualifications
 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Communication, Journalism, Marketing, Art or related field or non-communication related degree with additional two years of professional communication experience, or a combination of related education and work experience to equal at least six years.
  • Experience developing social media strategies and deploying them with positive results.
  • At least two years of experience creating engaging social media content.
  • A proven track record of writing clear, concise, and creative copy.
  • Demonstrated strong grasp of English usage and grammar.
  • Experience making digital communications accessible.
  • Use of video editing tool such as CapCut, Descript or Canva.
  • Interpersonal skills including patience, tact, and the ability to work with a variety of people at all levels to lead communications efforts.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with a social media management tool such as Sprout Social.
  • Experience working in education.
  • Experience using AI-empowered workflows.
  • Excellent organization skills and the ability to handle a high volume of work, multiple projects being worked on simultaneously, and tight deadlines.
