Job Description

Ameriprise is seeking a Vice President to provide architecture vision, leadership, and strategic direction across HR technology, Finance technology, and the broader employee platform ecosystem. This role shapes how employees interact with technology end to end, driving modernization, cloud transformation, platform integration, and the applied use of AI to improve business processes and employee productivity. The ideal candidate brings a holistic view of employee tools and platforms, understands how they interconnect, and can define and govern architectural direction that is scalable, secure, and business-aligned.

Responsibilities

  • Own and evolve the HR, Finance, and employee platform architecture vision and multi-year roadmap, aligned to business and technology strategy.
  • Define target-state architecture for the employee technology ecosystem, including Workday, ServiceNow, Microsoft 365, and cloud platforms, ensuring integration, scalability, and a seamless end-to-end employee experience.
  • Champion the applied use of AI across the employee ecosystem by identifying high-value use cases, defining architectural guardrails, and influencing AI-enabled delivery across teams. (Note: this is not an AI developer role, but a leader who understands how AI can streamline and optimize business processes.).
  • Set and govern enterprise architecture standards, policies, and integration strategies across platforms (ServiceNow, Workday, AWS, Microsoft/Azure) to ensure consistency, security, and reusability.
  • Build and develop a highly effective architecture organization with the skills and structure to meet current and future business needs across HR, Finance, and employee platforms.
  • Drive quality and talent development through effective hiring, mentoring, career planning, and employee engagement.
  • Partner closely with business leaders to translate technology capabilities into business terms and vice versa, ensuring mutual understanding and alignment on strategic objectives.
  • Lead and participate in annual budget and financial planning for the technology portfolio, including cost/benefit analysis, project prioritization, and investment decisions.
  • Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies (particularly AI, cloud, and employee experience platforms), and incorporate relevant advancements to improve business capabilities and the technology function.
  • Foster strong cross-functional relationships across the organization and within technology to drive architectural alignment and collaboration.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, MIS, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • 10+ years of relevant experience required.
  • 6-8+ years of people leadership experience, including success in leading technical teams and implementing enterprise-scale technology initiatives.
  • Strong technical understanding of AWS and Microsoft/Azure cloud platforms.
  • Expert-level knowledge of ServiceNow, including its role in employee service delivery, ITSM, and HRSD.
  • Demonstrated experience with enterprise platforms such as Workday, and a broad understanding of how employee tools interconnect across the technology ecosystem.
  • Deep understanding of how AI can be leveraged to enhance and streamline business processes, with the ability to identify use cases, define guardrails, and drive adoption (applied AI, not hands-on development).
  • 5+ years of experience in short- and long-term architecture strategy planning and execution.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and support large-scale technology solutions within a regulated enterprise environment.
  • Strong business and financial acumen, including experience managing budgets and financial planning processes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in financial services or another highly regulated industry.
  • Experience leading cloud migration and modernization initiatives.
  • Familiarity with architecture governance frameworks, integration/API strategy, and enterprise data architecture.
  • Proven innovator and change agent with excellent leadership and communication skills, capable of influencing at the executive level.
  • Experience shaping the end-to-end employee experience through technology, connecting HR, productivity, and service delivery platforms into a cohesive ecosystem.

Visa Sponsorship

Applicants must have a valid work authorization that does not now, or in the future, require visa sponsorship for employment in the United States (e.g., H-1B, F-1 CPT, F-1 OPT, TN).

In-Office Collaboration

By fostering a culture of face-to-face collaboration, idea sharing, productivity and personal connection, we deliver for our stakeholders - clients, advisors, employees and shareholders. Our employees work in the office at least four (4) days per week, with flexibility to work from home one (1) day per week.
