Job description

We are seeking a dynamic and results-driven Vice President of Sales to lead our national sales organization for a digitally-enabled wholesale commercial insurance brokerage. This executive will own the full sales strategy and execution across a multi-region field team and a high-velocity agent prospecting operation, driving adoption of our real-time rate, quote, and bind platform among retail agents and brokers nationwide.

Key Responsibilities

Sales Leadership & Strategy

  • Develop and execute a national sales strategy to grow wholesale commercial insurance premium volume across all product lines.
  • Own revenue targets and hold regional teams accountable to pipeline, conversion, and retention metrics.
  • Partner with executive leadership to align sales initiatives with platform capabilities and carrier relationships.
  • Drive market penetration by identifying and prioritizing high-value retail agent and broker segments.

Regional Team Management (4-6 Regions)

  • Recruit, develop, and lead a national field sales force organized into 4-6 geographic regions, each managed by a Regional Sales Director or Manager.
  • Set regional goals, monitor performance dashboards, and conduct regular business reviews with regional leaders.
  • Establish sales playbooks, pricing guidance, and escalation paths for complex commercial accounts.
  • Foster a high-performance, agent-first culture with strong accountability and professional development.

Agent Prospecting & Phone Room Operations (10+ Reps)

  • Oversee a centralized inside sales / prospecting phone room responsible for identifying, qualifying, and onboarding retail agents and brokers onto the platform.
  • Define KPIs including outbound call volume, agent appointments set, platform activations, and first-submission rates.
  • Implement scripts, training programs, and CRM workflows to maximize prospecting efficiency and conversion.
  • Collaborate with marketing on lead generation campaigns to fuel the phone room pipeline.

Digital Platform Adoption & Agent Experience

  • Champion the adoption of the company's real-time rate, quote, and bind digital platform among agents and brokers.
  • Collaborate with product and technology teams to relay agent feedback and prioritize platform enhancements.
  • Train regional and inside sales teams to position the platform's competitive advantages effectively.
  • Track and report on digital submission volume, bind rates, and platform engagement as core sales metrics.
Qualifications

Required

  • 10+ years of progressive sales experience in commercial insurance, with at least 5 years in wholesale / E&S brokerage.
  • Demonstrated success leading multi-region or national sales teams of 20+ professionals.
  • Deep understanding of commercial lines products (property, casualty, general liability, professional lines, etc.).
  • Proven track record managing inside sales or phone room operations, including KPI ownership and team coaching.
  • Experience selling to or through retail agents and independent brokers.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to build and interpret sales dashboards and pipeline reports.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and executive presence.

Preferred

  • Experience with insurtech or digitally-enabled wholesale platforms (e.g., real-time raters, API-connected markets).
  • Familiarity with MGA / MGU structures and delegated underwriting authority relationships.
  • Prior P&L or budget responsibility at a VP or SVP level.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or related field; advanced degree or CPCU designation a plus.
