Summary:
The SVP, Risk will be responsible for developing a comprehensive framework for identifying, assessing, monitoring, mitigating, and reporting the risks that could materially affect the organization. The role will provide executive leadership across enterprise risk management, operational risk, strategic risk, third-party risk, business continuity, emerging risk, and related areas while partnering closely with leaders responsible for financial, legal, compliance, technology, cybersecurity, and other specialized risk domains.
A critical component of the position will be establishing a consistent but appropriately flexible risk governance model across the family of companies. The SVP, Risk will create visibility into material risks across the portfolio, establish common risk-management expectations and reporting, challenge businesses regarding significant exposures, and ensure enterprise leadership has a consolidated view of the organization's risk profile.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Enterprise Risk Management
  • Develop, implement, and continuously enhance Archwell Capital's enterprise risk management framework.
  • Establish a consistent methodology for identifying, assessing, prioritizing, monitoring, mitigating, and reporting material risks.
  • Develop and maintain the organization's enterprise risk taxonomy, risk register, risk appetite framework, and risk reporting processes.
  • Facilitate regular enterprise risk assessments with executive and business leadership.
  • Identify emerging and interconnected risks that could materially affect business objectives.
  • Ensure significant risks have clearly identified owners, mitigation strategies, timelines, and accountability.

Executive & Governance Leadership
  • Serve as the senior risk advisor to executive leadership and appropriate governing bodies.
  • Provide an independent enterprise perspective on significant strategic and operational risks.
  • Develop concise, decision-oriented reporting regarding material risks, trends, exposures, and mitigation activities.
  • Facilitate discussions regarding risk appetite, risk tolerance, and significant risk decisions.
  • Provide effective challenge regarding decisions or activities that create material enterprise exposure.

Family of Companies Risk Governance
  • Establish an enterprise risk governance model across Archwell Capital's family of companies.
  • Define minimum risk-management standards and expectations while allowing frameworks to reflect the size, complexity, industry, and risk profile of individual businesses.
  • Establish a consistent process for identifying and reporting material risks across companies.
  • Develop consolidated portfolio-level reporting that provides visibility into significant and systemic exposures.
  • Conduct or oversee periodic risk assessments of individual companies.
  • Partner with company CEOs, CFOs, General Counsels, risk leaders, and other executives to strengthen risk-management capabilities.
  • Provide constructive challenge regarding significant risk exposures and remediation plans.
  • Establish escalation protocols for material risks, incidents, control failures, or emerging concerns.
  • Identify common or correlated risks across multiple companies that may not be apparent when businesses are viewed individually.
  • Facilitate sharing of risk-management practices, resources, and lessons learned across the portfolio.

Operational & Strategic Risk
  • Oversee frameworks for operational risk, including risks associated with people, processes, systems, third parties, business disruption, and organizational change.
  • Partner with leadership to evaluate risk associated with major strategic initiatives and investments.
  • Develop processes for evaluating emerging risks and scenario-based exposures.
  • Ensure major transformation initiatives incorporate appropriate risk assessment and governance.
  • Monitor significant concentrations, dependencies, and potential single points of failure.

Business Continuity & Resilience
  • Establish enterprise expectations for business continuity, crisis management, and operational resilience.
  • Ensure critical business functions and dependencies are identified and appropriately protected.
  • Coordinate enterprise-level scenario planning and crisis exercises.
  • Evaluate the resilience of significant companies and critical operations.
  • Partner with the CIO, CISO, Legal, Communications, and business leaders regarding significant disruptions and crisis response.

Third-Party Risk
  • Establish an enterprise framework for identifying and managing significant third-party risks.
  • Develop risk-based standards for due diligence, contracting, ongoing monitoring, concentration risk, and vendor resilience.
  • Partner with Procurement, Technology, Cybersecurity, Legal, Compliance, and business leaders regarding critical third parties.
  • Identify significant third-party dependencies and concentrations across the family of companies.

Transactions & Portfolio Risk
  • Support risk diligence associated with acquisitions, investments, partnerships, and other significant transactions.
  • Develop an enterprise perspective regarding material operational, technology, cyber, regulatory, reputational, and other non-financial risks associated with potential transactions.
  • Establish post-transaction risk priorities and monitoring where appropriate.
  • Identify changes in the risk profile of businesses as strategies, markets, leadership, technologies, or external conditions evolve.

Cross-Functional Risk Coordination
  • Partner closely with Finance, Legal, Compliance, Internal Audit, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Human Resources, and business leadership.
  • Establish clear ownership of specialized risk domains while maintaining an integrated enterprise view.
  • Coordinate with the CISO regarding cybersecurity risk and the CIO regarding technology and operational resilience risks.
  • Ensure risk management complements rather than duplicates the responsibilities of Legal, Compliance, Internal Audit, and other control functions.

Leadership
  • Build and lead a high-performing enterprise risk function.
  • Develop appropriate risk-management capabilities, processes, tools, analytics, and reporting.
  • Promote a culture in which thoughtful risk management supports informed decision-making rather than simply preventing risk-taking.
  • Build productive relationships with executives and risk leaders throughout the family of companies.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to provide credible independent challenge while maintaining strong business partnerships.

Education and/or Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree and relevant professional credentials preferred.
  • 15+ years of progressive risk, finance, operations, audit, compliance, or related leadership experience, including significant executive-level responsibility.
  • Prior experience as a CRO, senior enterprise risk executive, or equivalent leader within a complex organization.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and operating enterprise risk management frameworks.
  • Experience operating within a multi-company, holding-company, investment, decentralized, or similarly complex organizational structure strongly preferred.
  • Experience advising executive leadership and governing bodies regarding material enterprise risks.
  • Experience with transaction or M&A risk assessment preferred.
