Working Hours and/or Working Conditions: WORKING CONDITIONS: Office environmentPHYSICAL DEMANDS - Must be able to lift 30 lbs. HOURS: 10-20 hours per week for Fall 2025.Hours cannot exceed 30 hours per week. Work hours will be based on college work-study funding. Scheduled work hours may not conflict with class hours. Position terminates at end of semester or when award is exhausted.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of:Document scanning and digital file formats (e.g., PDF, TIFF, JPEG).File organization and metadata tagging practices.Basic archival or records management principles (preferred but not required).Skills in:Using basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office, file management systems).Attention to detail in reviewing and labeling digital files.Time management and task prioritization.Operating scanners and related digitization equipment (preferred but not required).Ability to:Follow detailed procedures and maintain consistency in work.Work independently and collaboratively in a quiet, focused environment.Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.Maintain confidentiality and uphold data integrity.
Supervision: Supervision lead by Coordinator of Archives and Records Management. Reports to the Associate Vice President of Business.
Job Function
The Archival Assistant will support the preservation and accessibility of the college's historical records by converting physical documents and photographic material into digital formats.

Job Responsibilities
  • Digitize archival documents and photographic formats using scanners and specialized software.
  • Organize and label digital files according to established metadata standards.
  • Handle fragile and sensitive materials with care.
  • Maintain accurate records of digitization progress.
  • Assist with basic archival tasks as needed.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent required; Current Macomb Community College student
Qualifications
Preferred but not required: experience in clerical or office support work, libraries or archives, digitization projects, or other technical work.
