Job Description

Under the direct supervision of CMC’s President & CEO and in close coordination with the College’s President, the Vice President and Campus Dean of the Aspen and Carbondale campuses provides executive‑level vision, innovation, and overall leadership to ensure the success of students, employees, and the communities served by the campuses under her/his/their leadership.

The position oversees two non‑residential campuses, each with strong enrollments in first responder programs, concurrent enrollment programs, English as a Second Language, and fine arts. The campuses also maintain robust enrollments in non‑credit and community‑education programs. In addition, the Vice President and Campus Dean oversees a community collaboration site in Basalt and off‑campus instruction in various locations across the Roaring Fork Valley.

Colorado Mountain College is a dual‑mission, open‑access institution offering nine bachelor’s programs in addition to traditional community college programs—adult basic education, certificates, and associate degrees. The college proudly identifies as a Hispanic‑Serving Institution and is governed by a non‑partisan elected board of trustees.

Compensation and Benefits

Hiring range: \$159,836.15 – \$177,595.74 annual salary, dependent on education and experience. Relocation assistance may be provided if applicable.

Key Responsibilities Senior‑Level Leadership
  • Provide direction to develop organizational, leadership, and diversity initiatives that promote a culture of professional excellence and accountability.
  • Work collaboratively with other leadership groups to advance the College’s vision.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with senior leaders, faculty, staff, students, community organizations, government agencies, and the general public.
  • Lead and participate in the design and delivery of short‑, intermediate‑, and long‑range strategic planning.
  • Advance the success of all learners at the College.
  • Develop and implement programs, policies, and initiatives.
  • Oversee curriculum development, delivery, and instruction.
  • Promote collaborative decision‑making.
  • Coordinate and support Foundation and overall College advancement and marketing activities.
  • Ensure consistent delivery of policies, practices, and systems of internal control necessary to comply with federal, state, and local legal reporting requirements.
Campus Administration
  • Develop, implement, and manage the budgets of both campuses.
  • Create, review, and revise processes and related administrative activities.
  • Oversee staffing and administrative structures to ensure effective administration at both campuses.
  • Provide leadership, supervision, and evaluation of site personnel.
  • Provide for faculty and staff development with associated performance expectations and accountability.
  • Oversee student residential facilities, food service, libraries, and additional student‑life functions that are part of a residential location.
Student Recruitment and Retention
  • Develop and oversee student recruitment activities in collaboration with student affairs and the marketing office.
  • Oversee and evaluate registration processes and procedures.
  • Develop and oversee student retention procedures to ensure student success.
  • Oversee the delivery of student support services and instructional support functions.
  • Oversee the development and delivery of adult and non‑credit programs.
  • Ensure the successful implementation of high‑school (concurrent enrollment) programs.
Community Relations
  • Provide leadership and interaction to meet the educational needs of communities served by the campuses.
  • Create, develop, and promote positive community service and engagement.
  • Identify and ensure the development of public‑service, education, and training programs.
  • Represent the College and local campuses at community functions and service groups.
  • Meet with local businesses to identify and address workforce development needs.
  • Provide leadership in friend‑ and fundraising efforts in collaboration with the CMC Foundation.
Campus Facilities
  • Supervise and manage the utilization and management of all campus facilities.
  • Identify, plan for, and monitor capital improvements.
  • Coordinate acquisition or renovation/remodeling of campus facilities with the President and other senior administrators.
Coordination with College‑wide Offices and Personnel
  • Coordinate with the President and other central services personnel to ensure consistent implementation of college‑wide policies, programming, and procedures.
  • Supervise the faithful execution of the College’s Strategic Plan.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Special Conditions of Employment
  • Successful completion of a background check, including motor‑vehicle records, is required.
  • Incumbent will adhere to all safety and compliance policies of Colorado Mountain College while performing all duties assigned.
  • Travel within the College’s service area and statewide will be required, as well as weekend and evening hours due to the nature of the position.
Supervisory Responsibility

This executive position reports to the President and will supervise staff.

Working Conditions

The position requires constant sitting, occasional walking, standing, and driving; occasional handling of objects, pushing or pulling; frequent reaching with hands or arms, and use of finger movements; occasional lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling objects up to 50 lbs. Constant written and oral communication and the ability to reason, analyze, and perform occasional calculations are required. Work is performed using a computer and standard office equipment daily and a vehicle occasionally.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduate education from an accredited institution and a minimum of seven years of executive‑level or senior‑level experience, or equivalent.
  • Ten years of experience in complex organizations preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current principles, practices, and trends in leadership, organizational development, and management.
  • Higher education budgeting and fiscal oversight experience.
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws, codes, and regulations covering higher education institutions.
  • Familiarity with technology trends affecting campus and district‑wide operations.
  • Ability to lead campuses through multifaceted opportunities, facilitate cooperation, analyze problems, identify solutions, and implement recommendations.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written, and the ability to establish cooperative relationships.
  • Commitment to working effectively with students, employees, and community members of all backgrounds.
  • Bilingual or conversational Spanish preferred.
