JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Vice President of Finance
Department: Finance
Reports to: President/CEO
FLSA Status: Exempt
Function: As a vital member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Vice President of Finance provides strategic leadership and oversight of all financial operations for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Manatee County. This position ensures the organization's financial health, sustainability, accountability, and compliance while supporting strategic decision-making, resource development, and long-term growth across the Club, Foundation, and affiliated entities.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES:
Strategic Leadership:
• Serves as a trusted advisor to the President/CEO and Board on financial strategy, risk management, and long-term sustainability
• Leads financial planning processes aligned with organizational goals and strategic priorities
• Builds strong partnerships with Finance, Investment, and related Board Committees
• Promotes a culture of accountability and data-informed decision-making
Financial Management and Reporting:
• Oversees all accounting, financial reporting, payroll, and financial operations
• Ensures timely, accurate reporting across all entities
• Maintains and analyzes the general ledger
• Leads audit preparation and serves as liaison with external auditors
• Implements improvements to financial systems and controls
Budgeting and Resource Stewardship:
• Leads development of annual budgets
• Monitors financial performance and recommends corrective action
• Oversees management of assets and investments
• Ensures compliance with grants and contracts
• Supports fundraising and funding requests
Organizational Leadership and Collaboration:
• Partners with leadership to align financial strategy with operations
• Supports Club Directors with budgeting and financial management
• Provides financial training and guidance across teams
Board and External Relations:
• Prepares and presents financial reports to the Board
• Serves in an advisory role to Finance and Investment Committees
• Maintains relationships with auditors, funders, and partners
Additional Responsibilities:
Supervision: Leads, develops, and supports finance staff to ensure a high-performing, accurate, responsive, and accountable finance function.
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, grants management, internal controls, and compliance requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret financial data and provide clear, actionable guidance to executive leadership and Board committees
  • Strong leadership, analytical, project management, and problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, professionalism, and sound judgment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, financial systems, and related productivity tools

Position Requirements:
The incumbent of this position is expected to have a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field; a CPA, MBA, or related advanced credential is preferred. A minimum of five (5) years of progressive financial management experience, preferably within a nonprofit organization, is required. The Vice President of Finance should also have a proven record of successful financial leadership, fiscal stewardship, compliance oversight, and strategic financial planning.
Working Conditions:
Primarily office-based with occasional local travel and extended hours as needed, including preparation for Board meetings, audits, budgeting cycles, and other key organizational deadlines.
It is the policy of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Manatee County that applicants for employment undergo level 2 employment screening in accordance with the requirements of Chapter 435, Florida Statutes, as a condition of employment. All applicants for employment or to volunteer who are selected for an interview will be provided with the Consent to Background Screening form for level 2 screening, and/or an Affidavit of Good Moral Character. The leading candidate for employment will be required to execute the Consent form and report to a designated location and submit fingerprints for level 2 screening. No applicant for a designated position will be employed until the level 2 screening results are received, reviewed, and approved by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Manatee County, Office of Human Resources. Level 2 background screening shall include, but not be limited to, fingerprinting for statewide criminal and juvenile records checks through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and federal criminal records checks through the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and may include local criminal records checks through local law enforcement agencies.
