Role Overview

Legend Biotech is seeking a Senior Vice President, Medical Affairs to provide enterprise leadership for the Company's global Medical Affairs organization.


The Senior Vice President, Medical Affairs is a critical enterprise leadership role with significant impact on the scientific, clinical and external medical strategy for Legend's approved BCMA CAR-T in multiple myeloma, as well the development of future pipeline programs. This leader will set the overall Medical Affairs vision and strategy, partner closely with collaboration partners, such as Johnson & Johnson, as well as internal cross-functional leaders, and ensure Medical Affairs is positioned as a strategic driver of clinical understanding, external engagement, lifecycle planning, data generation, and future growth. 

This role will provide senior leadership across home office and field-based Medical Affairs teams and will be accountable for building the capabilities, structure, and talent needed to support CARVYKTI today and Legend's expanding pipeline, including future in vivo and emerging therapeutic areas.The SVP, Medical Affairs will report to the President, Carvykti Business Unit, will be a member of Carvykti LT and will be based in Bridgewater, NJ. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and execute the Medical Affairs vision, strategy, and operating model across CARVYKTI and the broader pipeline.
  • Provide enterprise leadership for lifecycle management, evidence generation, scientific communications, medical launch excellence, and external medical engagement.
  • Partner with R&D, Commercial, Regulatory, Safety, Market Access, and Clinical Development to shape product strategy and maximize portfolio value.
  • Ensure medical insights and scientific expertise influence key business and development decisions.
  • Serve as the senior scientific leader and external ambassador for Medical Affairs.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs), academic institutions, professional societies, patient advocacy groups, and healthcare stakeholders.
  • Lead the global evidence-generation, publication, and scientific communication strategy.
  • Promote scientific excellence, patient-centered innovation, compliance, and thought leadership across the organization.
  • Build and lead a high-performing Medical Affairs organization capable of supporting current and future business needs.
  • Develop organizational capabilities across Medical Strategy, Field Medical, Medical Communications, Evidence Generation, Medical Operations, and Medical Excellence.
  • Establish talent, succession, leadership development, and capability-building strategies to strengthen organizational effectiveness and future readiness.
  • Drive a culture of accountability, continuous learning, innovation, and high performance.
  • Serve as a key member of the Carvykti BU leadership team, contributing to enterprise strategy and organizational decision-making.
  • Lead Medical Affairs transformation initiatives, including digital innovation, omnichannel engagement, advanced analytics, and operational excellence.
  • Foster strong collaboration across internal functions, alliance and external partners to drive alignment and execution.
  • Ensure effective governance, resource prioritization, performance management, and delivery against strategic objectives.

Requirements

  • MD (preferred), PharmD, PhD, or equivalent advanced scientific degree required; board certification and oncology/hematology experience strongly preferred. 
  • 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, or related biopharmaceutical leadership roles. 
  • Significant leadership experience in oncology, hematology, cell therapy, or specialty biopharmaceuticals, including responsibility for global Medical Affairs organizations spanning field medical, scientific communications, publications, evidence generation, and external engagement. 
  • Demonstrated success shaping treatment landscapes, supporting product launches and lifecycle management, building high-performing organizations, and developing capabilities to support current and future portfolio growth. 
  • Experience working effectively across complex global partnerships, matrix organizations, and cross-functional leadership teams.
  • Deep understanding of pharmaceutical development and Medical Affairs, with experience across multiple functions such as Clinical Development, Medical Affairs, Regulatory, Commercial, Safety, Translational Development, or Market Access. 
  • Strong scientific credibility with expertise in medical strategy, evidence generation, scientific communications, external stakeholder engagement, and product lifecycle 
    management. 
  • Prior experience supporting NDA/BLA submissions, launches, and post-launch lifecycle strategies preferred. 
  • Established relationships within the oncology and hematology community, particularly multiple myeloma and/or cellular therapy, preferred. 
  • Proven ability to influence senior executives, drive alignment across complex stakeholder groups, and lead organizational transformation and capability-building initiatives. 
  • Exceptional communication, leadership, negotiation, change management, and collaboration skills, with a demonstrated ability to deliver results across global, matrixed environments. 
  • Strong business acumen, analytical capability, and ability to translate clinical and scientific insights into impactful medical and business strategies.
