Overview
The Director of Engineering, Puerto Rico is responsible for the technical and administrative management for Engineering resources located in and serving Puerto Rico. The disciplines overseen will include Substations, Transmission Lines, Distribution, Protection and Automation, and Civil/Structural. Responsibilities include financial performance, quality assurance, safety assurance, technical leadership, and resource management for design engineering and support resources. The Director will work closely with the Project Management Organization (PMO) and other Engineering Leadership for project resourcing and execution. They will support business development and business operations efforts and have a lead role in interfacing with other Practices. They will serve as a contact person for clients being supported by assigned Engineering resources. The Director will provide leadership, development, mentorship, management, and sound technical guidance in all aspects of our business. This position is located in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The role will interact with all levels of the TRC organization with a focus on the Practices of the Power Sector. Strategic thinking and strong business acumen are essential in this role to ensure our company's technical personnel and resources are used appropriately. The role will leverage their team to ensure the organization is well-versed in current discipline, specific technological trends and familiar with a variety of business concepts. Strong Client relationships with LUMA and the College of Engineers and Surveyors of Puerto Rico will need to be developed and maintained. The Director of Engineering, Puerto Rico will report to the SVP-Puerto Rico and LATAM with dotted line to the SVP-Deputy Sector Director for Power.
Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with Regulatory, Legal, and Corporate responsibility requirements of Puerto Rico.
  • Oversee a diverse staff of engineers, designers, and drafters to ensure that they exceed client expectations.
  • Mentor and coach staff members at all levels of development.
  • Foster and promote a positive culture within direct report team and collaborating teams.
  • Review and approve staff time, expense, and requisition entries.
  • Administration of company policies, salary administration, training, safety, employee development, and performance evaluations for direct and indirect reports.
  • Participate in recruiting efforts including attendance at job fairs, industry focus groups and intern program.
  • Review, approve and coordinate development of proposals and estimates for various projects.
  • Participate in business development activities, such as development of marketing materials, technical presentations, client presentations or attendance at trade shows.
  • Attend client business development meetings to represent specific technical expertise when necessary.
  • Collaborate on management of the overall workload for the group including resource allocation, QA/QC execution, and backlog forecasting.
  • Coordinate with leadership within TRC's power sector on opportunities for collaboration and cross discipline training.
  • Work with the supervisors and project leads to set and manage priorities so that demand on individual staff is levelized.
  • Assist with project management including budgets, schedules, and client relations.
  • Interface with other levels of management within TRC including project management, department management, and practice leaders.
  • Responsible for managing the assigned team to meet or exceed revenue, profitability and quality performance targets.
  • Occasional travel will be required.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an accredited school or University is required, advanced degree is preferred.
  • Fifteen plus years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Shall have demonstrated supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish is a plus.
  • Ability to effectively market engineering services outside the Company
  • Certificates, licenses, registrations - Puerto Rico P.E. (or the ability to obtain in a timely manner) strongly preferred.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license to operate a motor vehicle in Puerto Rico.

Compensation: In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.
Other Compensation: Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company's annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.
