Job description

Partners for HOME is seeking a Vice President of Development (VPD) to join our mission to make homelessness in the City of Atlanta rare, brief and nonrecurring by providing strategic leadership over development.  The VPD will work closely with the CEO, staff and Board of Directors to implement strategies to drive revenue and advance fundraising strategy while overseeing staff and contractors to execute the work.  Together with his/her/their team, the VPD will:
  • Secure public and private support, resource alignment and funding for CoC initiatives; and
  • Develop and implement a strategic development plan to ensure organizational operation support now and into the future. 
Drive Resources and Achieve Results
  • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with volunteers, community and business leaders, donors, and fund recipients to generate necessary resources
  • Meet annual fundraising goals per the development of a strategic development plan
  • Develop and maintain a successful corporate, foundation, and individual solicitation program, including developing a strategic development plan, identifying priorities and prospects, and building resources and connections to implement the plan.
  • Create and manage a portfolio of corporate, foundation, and individual prospects, communicate with current and prospective donors to build relationships and secure grants and donation
  • Initiate strategic ways to generate revenue 
  • Development long- and short- range plans that ensure long-term sustainability for both PFH and the CoC 
  • Build relationships and inspire investment including a systematic approach of personal connection and outreach to potential donors 
  • Oversee all grant writing and submissions including the annual HUD CoC NOFA
  • Provide strategic leadership over efforts to improve public policy and secure support and funding for solutions to homelessness. 
Build Relationships and Inspire Investment
  • Convey energy, meaning and importance of PFH and the CoC mission and work
  • Promote idea or vision, able to read the audience, and persuade others to take action
  • Partners with the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Program Officer, Chief Financial Officer, Board members and others for donor cultivation and solicitation. 
  • Meet donor needs by providing strategies and opportunities that raise revenue and other resources while building trust and benefitting both parties
  • Recognize the power of effective stewardship and development and implement relationship plans for donors of all giving levels
  • Cultivate and solicit contributions from prospective and current individual and corporate donors, and secure private grants
  • Engage with donors year-round, recognizing impact of gift, communicating progress and results, inspiring involvement and ensuring quality experience
  • Collect and record relevant donor and volunteer information to forge partnerships, increase engagement and sustain relationships
  • Participate in community activities which contribute to the acquisition and retention of individual donors
Organizational Leadership
  • Work closely with leadership to create and advance the CoC strategic plan and PFH business plan
  • Value and leverage the power of external networks and relationships
  • Partner with CPO to identify key areas of impact for development and communication opportunities 
  • Conduct, analyze and interpret internal and external research to support planning and development of organizational resource development and marketing strategies and plan
  • Progressive thinker, understanding philanthropic trends and best practices in donor-centered fund-raising
  • Effective presenter, active listener, open to new ideas, keeps supporters informed and engaged
  • Self-directed, pro-active and holds one-self accountable
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent with at least 5 years of progressive experience in a similar role.
  • Comprehensive knowledge in nonprofit fundraising, and development
  • Ability to maintain knowledge and professional development in market research, business trends and fundraising trends that may impact needs and resources
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office and other software

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position manages one contractor for grant writing.
