Job Description:

We are seeking a Vice President of Engineering to lead our Infrastructure & Platform Engineering organization, overseeing Cloud, SRE, CI/CD & SDLC, and Application Support. This executive will lead approximately 50 engineers through four Directors and be responsible for building a highly reliable, scalable, and efficient platform that enables the business to grow.

This role requires a leader who combines deep technical credibility with executive leadership. The ideal candidate can engage on architecture, system design, and operational trade-offs while developing a high-performing, self-managing organization that delivers enterprise-grade reliability with minimal executive escalation.

We're looking for an executive who has led infrastructure and platform organizations in a complex, global SaaS environment where product and technology are the business. The successful candidate understands the operational rigor required to deliver world-class availability, scalability, and customer experience at enterprise scale.

Preferred locations: Hybrid (2 days/week in office) in New York City or Minneapolis, MN.

What You'll Own
Organizational Leadership
  • Lead four Directors and ~50 engineers across Cloud, SRE, CI/CD & SDLC, and Application Support

  • Build and sustain a high-ownership culture where teams operate with minimal escalation

  • Develop Directors as leaders; hold them accountable for delivery, reliability, and team health

  • Drive headcount planning, hiring, and retention strategy in partnership with HR and Finance

  • Identify and grow future leaders - create paths for top performers to advance within and beyond your organization

Technical Leadership
  • Provide technical leadership on architecture, system design, and engineering quality across the platform organization.

  • Establish and drive engineering standards for infrastructure, observability, CI/CD, reliability, and operational excellence.

  • Influence long-term platform strategy and architectural direction in partnership with Engineering and business leaders.

  • Champion platform health by proactively addressing technical debt and driving investments that improve reliability, scalability, and engineering velocity.

  • Evaluate emerging technologies, including AI-powered developer tools and cloud platform innovations, and make strategic build, buy, or adopt decisions.

Platform Reliability & Operations
  • Own the 99.95% uptime SLA across a multi-cloud (AWS, GCP, Azure) production environment

  • Define and enforce SLOs, error budgets, and incident response processes across all teams

  • Ensure on-call rotations, runbooks, and postmortem culture are mature and continuously improving

Application Support
  • Lead and scale the Application Support organization, delivering consistent, enterprise-grade support across products and business units.

  • Own the tier-2/tier-3 technical escalation function, serving as the bridge between Customer Support and Engineering.

  • Ensure the team has the tools, access, and expertise to efficiently investigate and resolve complex customer issues.

  • Establish a closed-loop process that translates customer issue trends and root causes into prioritized engineering improvements, with defined SLAs for escalation response and resolution.

  • Serve as the executive escalation point for high-severity customer issues, ensuring effective resolution and continuous operational improvement.

Acquisition Integration
  • Lead technical integration of infrastructure and platform assets from multiple small acquisitions per year

  • Own and evolve a repeatable integration playbook: cloud tenancy, CI/CD onboarding, monitoring, support handoff, and app support coverage

  • Assess acquisition infrastructure risk pre-close and provide VP-level input to M&A technical due diligence

Engineering Productivity & AI Tooling
  • Champion AI-powered developer tooling as a productivity multiplier across the engineering organization

  • Partner with Engineering and Product leadership to evaluate and roll out AI tooling: code generation, observability, incident management, and beyond

  • Define and track metrics to demonstrate productivity improvements over time

Platform Strategy & Architecture
  • Own the multi-year platform and infrastructure roadmap in alignment with product and business strategy

  • Drive standardization and centralization of infrastructure management across the organization

Executive Stakeholder Management
  • Proactively communicate platform health, risk, and roadmap to the C-suite - escalating only what truly requires executive attention

  • Translate complex infrastructure and support decisions into business-level context for non-technical stakeholders

  • Represent Engineering in cross-functional forums: product planning, security reviews, finance, and customer escalations

What We're Looking For
Required
  • 10+ years in engineering leadership, with at least 3-5 years at VP level

  • Proven leadership experience in a large-scale, global SaaS organization supporting mission-critical products with demanding availability, performance, and scalability requirements.

  • Experience operating platforms that serve a global customer base, with expertise in designing and managing highly available, resilient, and geographically distributed infrastructure.

  • Proven experience leading SRE, Platform, or Infrastructure organizations at scale (40+ engineers)

  • Technical depth sufficient to engage credibly on architecture, system design, and operational trade-offs - not just manage process

  • Experience owning or closely partnering with a technical support or application support function

  • Deep familiarity with multi-cloud environments and modern infrastructure patterns (IaC, GitOps, containers, observability)

  • Track record owning and meeting high-availability SLAs in a production SaaS environment

  • Experience integrating acquired infrastructure assets into a platform organization

  • Strong executive communication skills; ability to manage up with low noise and high signal

  • Demonstrated ability to develop leaders - with examples of people you've led going on to senior roles

Strongly Preferred
  • Hands-on experience deploying AI/ML tooling for developer productivity at scale

  • Background in product-led, fast-paced SaaS organizations

  • Familiarity with centralized platform governance in a multi-team environment

  • Experience contributing to M&A technical due diligence
