Job description

The Float Registered Nurse (RN) provides interim clinical support and nursing oversight across assisted living communities as assigned. This position serves as a flexible clinical resource, traveling between communities to maintain continuity of care, support resident wellness, ensure regulatory compliance, and assist with nursing operations during staffing transitions, vacancies, leaves of absence, census changes, or other operational needs.

The Float RN collaborates with community leadership, caregivers, healthcare providers, residents, and families to promote high-quality resident care and positive health outcomes while maintaining compliance with state regulations and organizational standards.

Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesClinical Oversight
  • Conduct resident assessments, evaluations, and monitoring as required.
  • Review and update resident service plans and health-related documentation.
  • Monitor resident health status and respond appropriately to changes in condition.
  • Provide nursing consultation and clinical guidance to caregivers and medication aides.
  • Coordinate physician orders, follow-up appointments, laboratory services, and ancillary healthcare services.
  • Assist with admission, transfer, and discharge processes.
Medication Management
  • Oversee medication administration systems and practices.
  • Ensure medication orders are transcribed accurately and implemented timely.
  • Conduct medication audits and monitor compliance with organizational policies and state regulations.
  • Provide education and competency validation related to medication administration.
Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations governing assisted living operations.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records and documentation.
  • Assist communities in preparing for regulatory surveys and inspections.
  • Identify areas of risk and implement corrective action plans when necessary.
Staff Support and Education
  • Serve as a clinical resource and mentor to caregivers and community staff.
  • Provide training and education related to resident care, infection prevention, medication management, and clinical best practices.
  • Assist with staff orientation and competency assessments as assigned.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and resident-centered care.
Interim Community Support
  • Provide temporary nursing leadership support during vacancies or transitions.
  • Collaborate with Executive Directors, Resident Care Directors, and other leadership team members.
  • Assist with staffing coordination and clinical workflow optimization.
  • Support quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives.
Resident and Family Relations
  • Communicate effectively with residents, families, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Address resident and family concerns in a professional and timely manner.
  • Promote resident dignity, independence, and quality of life.
QualificationsRequired
  • Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in applicable state(s).
  • Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience.
  • Experience in assisted living, senior living, long-term care, memory care, or related setting.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability and willingness to travel between communities as assigned.
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and leadership abilities.
Preferred
  • Previous experience serving in a multi site, float, regional, or interim nursing role.
  • Supervisory or leadership experience in senior living.
  • Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  • CPR/BLS certification.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the community for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift, transfer, push, or pull up to 50 pounds with or without accommodation.
  • Ability to travel frequently to assigned communities.
  • Ability to respond to resident emergencies and perform nursing duties in a variety of care settings.
Work Environment
  • Primarily located within assisted living communities.
  • Frequent travel required to support multiple locations.
  • Schedule may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call responsibilities based on operational needs.
